Quick question.
I can delete thread right after:

For gaming at 2560x1080, shall I get a 390 or 970?

Thanks

390, also the 390 will run upcoming DX12 games better than Nvidia cards.
>>
>>52461727
That's wrong but feel free to believe what you wish.

970 is the superior card at 1080p.

A major advantage of the 390 is that it will age better relative to the 970.

I'm not a shill.

Why not get a 980 in sli? Better performance for the money.

In gaming? Yes

In rendering? The 970 will always be better.

good meme
>>
>>52461795
3.5GB is only a con if there's a VRAM bottleneck.

Most people here only spout memes instead of understanding how GPUs work.

fuck off, you have no idea what you're talking about.

3.5gB is a SIGNIFICANT ISSUE.

Do tell.

Should I drop my 270 and aim for a 960? Getting tired of this card, runs like garbage, overclocking is the only option for my 270.

It doesn't matter you'll never need more than 350hp!
How does it feel to apologize about being cucked?
>>
>>52462217
The analogy doesn't apply as everyone already knows the 970 is a 3.5GB card.

The 3.5GB of VRAM is only an issue if a VRAM bottleneck occurs.

Knock your self out:

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-Discloses-Full-Memory-Structure-and-Limitations-GTX-970

Also the fact of buying 4GB of vram but just getting 3.5Gb is losing 25% of your vram. 25% is a large number. ALSO Fallout4 recommends 4GB..thats a recommended amount. Thats not going to run high settings. It's 2016 another bunch of games will be coming out are you really going to recommend a 3.5 card just cause you're a fanboy? How about you help OP out. 390 8GB vram, its common sense.

270 and 960 have the same fucking specs you fucking asshole. Thats like ditching a pile of shit for another pile of shit. How fucking stupid are you. Why don't you save up and get a proper card asshole.

>Amdrones can't even do basic math.

You guys are sad, also fallout4 does recommend 4gigs of vram but you can get away with 2. Also fallout 4 is poorly optimized and even has major dips on both furyx's and 980ti's. Also it's only 12.5% of the total vram being locked away.

970 > 390.
Better thermals, get a 970 from a good third party like MSI and it'll overclock to 980 stock levels. Uses less power, you'll enjoy not waiting a few weeks to months for AMD to release an optimized driver for your newest game you bought.

While 3.5gb was a completely fucked situation, you won't run into it minus running modded skyrim with 10k textures, meshes and all sorts of massive uncompressed graphic-ry, or 4k res which you don't do on a 970 anyways.
>>
>>52463120
What about things like gta that use more than 3.5gb once you max everything ?
>>
>>52461876
at the end of the day 3.5gb is 3.5gb

that extra can go to work. A good application I can think of that with is Skyrim with enbseries settings set to use higher memory, or GTAV. Both of those will make very good use of the extra half a gb.

>but you can get away with 2
This is exactly my point. Who needs to get away with 2GB of ram? You should not have to get away with shit. Pay for 4GB and get 4GB. Don't make excuses. This is why I will never be a fanboy of Nvidia or AMD. I just know I'm not paying for a 3.5 when I should be getting 4.

First off, I've been a hardcore AMD supporter for quite some time.

Complete video card history:

TNT2
Geforce 2 GTS
Geforce 4 ti 4200
9800 Pro
7800GS
x1950 Pro
3850
5850
6950
390X (short lived)

As you can see, I've been straight AMD/ATI since 2006.

Unfortunately, at least for now those days are over.

The hardware has always been top-notch, but sadly the drivers have been wanting for some time now.

I'd say the issues really became prevalent around the 5850's launch.

Shortly thereafter, it became a constant game of "finding the best driver for ______ game". Once I found the one that worked best for me, I stuck with it.
The 10.4a driver for Battlefield: BC2 on the 5850 and the 12.8/13.12/14.12 drivers for the 6950 immediately come to mind etc.

I decided to give AMD one more chance and picked up a 390X 8GB about two weeks ago.

There were no HUGE issues really, just a lot of little hassles.

So yesterday after much contemplation, I packed up the card, took it back to Microcenter, and exchanged it for a 970 4GB.

Make no mistake, I am fully aware of the 970's 3.5GB and the fact that it is approximately 5% slower than the 390X.

But, between Nvidia's much more frequent driver updates, market dominance, Fallout 4's apparent system requirements, and the overwhelming ease
of use/lack of issues, I decided to switch over to the green team.

I have to say, I am very pleased with my decision thus far.

Please, don't flame me. I just felt the need to express my opinions/impressions etc.

Make no mistake, if AMD gets it act together, I'll gladly switch back.

But for now, it looks like my love affair with AMD hardware has finally come to an end.

390 if you want a more powerful card that consumers more power, produces morebgeat but is far more future proof.

970 if you never plan to change monitors. It will not be able to push many of today's games at maxed settings on an ultrawide monitor.

You're essentially powering 1.3x a normal 1080p screen, and the 970 is pushing its limits maxing out games at 1080p.
>>
>>52461650
That's cool you could probably do a double monitor setup on it, then you could tell us to check them.

Idk about video cards but I would like a dual-card setup, it just seems cool!

How will it age better when in 6 months time amd will be bankrupt and amd users will be driverless?
