Why is there such a limited online resource of information on computer science? Every search yields some incredibly vague explanation. We all know what every field of engineering studies and does for work. What do computer science majors study and actually do for work? I hear some of them can work for finance.
Computer science is not a science, nor is it about computers.

Computer science is just as much a "science" as political "science".
Basically it takes knowledge from other sciences (maths, physics, chemistry, etc.) and applies it to a particular category of technology: computers.
So, it's just a fancy way of calling studying the basic academic knowledge you need to know about stuff related to computers. I specifically emphasise the word academic here, because you can equally not study CS and still be just as qualified to work in the field.

How exactly does chemistry pertain to computers? I thought computers were all math.

in theory yes. in application no, you still need to build the hardware and optimize for specific hardware.

Its about programming
If mathematics is the study of structure of abstract objects, computer science is the study of abstract processes.
