reposting it here

My friend, who's into programming, told me about that idea for a website he had recently, and that he will start to work on it once he's finished with his uni work (he's very overwhelmed atm)

I really loved his idea, and as his project involved some complex stuff, I worked on it for the past few weeks because i was bored and wanted to learn new stuff.

The problem is, I got very involved into the project by myself, without telling him, that I completed it, and am very proud of what I've made. it's the first project that I work on from scratch, and I really like it.

My friend hasn't really started working on it yet.

As it's my first real project, I'd like to use it on my portfolio, especially considering that I'll try to intend a school somewhat related to webdev next year.

tl;dr, stole an idea to a very good friend of mine, how to cope with that?

chargers provide nothing but the positive and negative power leads, so there's no recognition to occur. there's either power or not. if you have a multimeter you can measure the voltage across the outside and inside of the barrel connector to at least see if your power brick works at all, but you probably don't have one.

most likely it's your laptop though because those charger bricks are pretty simple circuits and are reliable in normal usage even when they're made cheap as shit so it's not likely to be the problem.

I need a newer operating system for school and work. W7 just doesn't cut it anymore, sadly.

I tried W10 for the past 2 days and it's quite unstable for the shit I use it for. It wouldn't even pin things to the start menu and it's annoying to try to disable all the telemetry stuff.

I never used 8.1 so I'm looking for some opinions on it. Could I have a more stable and reliable experience if I stick with 8.1 + some customizations like classic shell?
What stuff would you guys recommend?

Basically, for now, is 8.1 better than W10?

8.1 is pretty shit, and it won't allow you to alt-tab at times out of unresponsive programs, and it calls indexing every time you make a search and tries to probe for apps too before returning results. I'm not sure about W10, I'm sure it's just as bad but now it can spy on you whilst dwm.exe ignores resizing events. Rather use Ubuntu and take Canonical up the ass than Microsoft, tbqh familie.

>>52456835
You're supposed to make one, is it mounted? You need a /boot/efi partition formatted with mkfs.vfat -F32 /dev/sd**, and set it to ESP/boot partition with flags in gdisk/parted. Then, you take a bootloader image (i.e. GRUB2, rEFInd, ELILO) and stick it in a folder named EFI. Then copy your kernel image and initramfs into the partition.

I've been given a nearly impossible task.

My mother in law wants a new laptop, except it can't be a big laptop- needs to be larger than 10 inches, smaller than 14- ideally, she wants a twelve. Next, it has to be light- anything that weighs over 2kg is too heavy apparently.

All she'd use it for is typing, emails, browsing the internet and watching the tele online. My first thought was a tablet, but she's determined to have a keyboard and windows for word etc, which I guess with a tablet is still doable but I'm not sure what to look for.

However, she only has a budget of around £200, in which case I'm now looking for second hand. Any ideas? She's looking at a Lenovo Yoga - but the model shes looking at only has 2g and didn't look like it could even handle web browsing on the advert (took 4 seconds just to tab).

Any ideas?

Hm? I thought you wanted one under $400? P8 is a little above 400 too.

P8 isn't bad, but perhaps the Ascend Mate 7 is better, I actually think it's cheaper and has a bigger battery, expandable storage, etc. Only real disadvantage is the front facing camera is shittier.

Have you already tried installing it via pacman? I think GRUB2 has os-probe and pacman pretty much sets everything up for you, you just need to run grub-install in the directory.

Program calls are loaded into memory for the most part, obviously, disk transfers are pretty expensive on computers whereas RAM is far faster. However, removing assets a program takes off of a disk or a routine that hasn't yet been called into memory can fail.

you probably mount something with a filesystem that is not supported by windows.
it can only read FAT, NTFS, exFAT, Live File System and ReFS.
that's why it suggests to format it because it's unreadable.

any iso file should be natively mountable by windows 8 or newer.

you could try 7z.

this depends way too much on the program.

if the program has a lot of shared libraries/resources that it loads from the HDD then it would probably be faster to put it on the SSD.
if it uses only native libraries then it would be probably better to have the OS on the SSD instead.

I'd rather have a snappy OS though than 1 second off a load time of something I launch once.

Loads, you'd be an idiot if you'd castrate yourself. And either you didn't listen or your doctor is an idiot too.

With a vasectomy they cut the tubes that bring sperm to your ejaculate. So you'll be literally shooting planks as no more sperm cells will be present. Other than the desired sterilization it has very little effect.

Removing the balls has major consequences, among others: hard to get an erection, no more orgasms, lesser testosterone will probably alter your body (muscle, breasts) and many more.
>>
if i get like 3 laptops is there a way to connect them together to create a cluster/super computer?

That is not true in the slightest. With a vasectomy your balls are still functional, but they cut the tube that carries sperm cells to your penis. All other functions of the balls remain intact.

You should be able to upgrade to any processor using the same socket. Some chipset features, however, may not work after the upgrade. I wouldn't really recommend upgrading as the processors are insanely expensive, the i7 3740QM is 100 bucks more expensive than the desktop counterpart for less than half the performance. i5 3350u is about 240.

>>52459111
Yeah, VGA passthrough works so as long as you have QEMU and a VGA card, which only requires KVM. Native UEFI suggests that you may have properly installed GRUB but did not configure it correctly (works on Gentoo too). Try using a LiveUSB instead (it natively can be recognized as UEFI and will modprobe efivars automatically). This goes for both Debian and Arch.

Amazon is funky shit. They messed up while shipping, instantly gave me a refund when i only wanted to know where the package was, it even said that i had recieved the package in a place over 800 km away from where i actually live. Which later lead to them altering the tracking data. And then the package arrived.

I doubt it. That bug happened after I upgraded the bios. And it was OS independent.

using Fedora 23 on my lappy
downloaded qbittorrent, opened it and it shows a very small and unreadable window, it's badly scaled.

my resolution is 3200x1800, this also happens with steam.
