Talk about your portable Macs here.
Which model do you have? Which OS version do you use? What do you do with you MB in general?
>>
Upgrading my 13" retina to El crapitain. Wish me luck macfags!
>>
>>52451957
Late 2011 model, 17" screen. Upgraded the HDD to 1TB and 16jeebees of ram. pretty comfy desu, still runs swell.
>>
I'm really on the edge of getting a mid 2014 13" retina MBP. It's about 1k yuros from a reputable second hand reseller and according to them it's in a really good shape.
Haven't had a Mac before, should I go for it? I've been looking for an ultrabook for quite a while now and for the specs the MBP with its pricing compares really well
>>
>>52452188
they're solid machines
>>
>>52451957
2015 13" rMBP here. I bought the 256gb SSD model. Breddy gud for my daily usage, which includes mobile development, some server side programming etc, besides browsing, spotify and pretty much everything else I need it for.

>>52452188 Buy it if you can, you won't regret :) They cost a lot, but you get a reliable device which can serve you for years.
>>
You guys are faghots for using apl
>>
>>52453026
>>you are using something I don't like
>>you are faggots
>>I posted it again, mom will be proud.
>>
I got the last non-cuck edition MBP 15" from 2012 before everything went non user replaceable.

Upgrading my 256 SSD to a 1TB SSD and throwing in some more RAM.

feels goodman.
>>
>>52451957
Nice a containment general.
>>
>>52451957
macbooks are outdated. e.g. modern notebooks support up to 64GB DDR4 ECC RAM. and macbooks? only 16GB DDR3 RAM.
>>
Bought a 2013 Macbook Air with 4GB of RAM. I've realized I fucked up so I'm waiting for the next MacBook Pro Retina (15-inch with 16 GB of RAM).
>>
>>52453282
What do you need more than 16GB ram in a notebook for?
>>
>>52453282
Anon, where the fuck can I get a notebook which supports ECC ram?
>>
just got a 13.3 rmbp about a month ago, El Cap obviously
my first time using osx since Lion, they've done a really good job with it since then.
>>
>>52453339
http://shop.lenovo.com/at/de/laptops/thinkpad/p-series/p70

select a xeon cpu and you can use ecc ram.
>>
>>52453394
Ok so basically if I want ECC I need to buy an overpriced malware infested chinese laptop from austria. Sounds great! ;)
>>
>>52453394
just start with the cheapest one and go from there.
and lenovo is chinese, they bought the thinkpad part from ibm some years ago.

Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading to El Capitan in my macbook pro retina 13" 2015, should I? Or macbook will work slowly?
>>
>>52453282
wtf are you doing with your laptop that you need 64 GB?
>>
>>52453888
Doesn't really change a lot from what I've experienced.
If you don't care about the splitscreen function, stick with Yosemite. The new diskutil ui is shit.
>>
>>52454062
I've read it has issues with WiFi conectivity
>>

Super sexy 12" PowerBook G4 running an outdated version of debian-ppc because they broke support for the Nvidia Geforce 4 GPU in it in the newer versions and nobody seems to care anymore at this point including me. Currently collecting dust in my bedroom.
>>
>>52451975
Does yours have the AMD Radeon GPU and has it fucked you over yet?
I keep getting screen artefacts and in many cases the Mac just refuses to boot. It's still going strong tho, it hasn't let me down yet.

What's the point of this thread again?
>I have a macbook
congratulations
>>
>>52454116
Huh, I haven't read into it but I've experienced it.

Not even 20 feet away from my router, but through a couple of walls in my apartment, the wifi will randomly say it's connected but cease to work. Have to turn it off and back on to get it to actually reconnect. My other devices don't have the issue in the exact same room, no issues on my phone, console, roku, etc..

If it's just a software issue I'm happy.
>>
>>52451957
Late 2011 mbp 15" with matte screen. I7-2760qm, ssd, hdd in caddy, 16GB 1600mhz memory. Broke once (gfx issue), motherboard replaced under European consumer law.

I use it for everything, work and school. Some games. I love this machine.

Keyboard us fucking shit which sucks because I don't have my desktop at uni. OS X is fucking shit again. Screen is pretty much the only reason to buy. How much can I sell this oversized slab of metal for?

>>
Late 2011 17", 16 GB RAM, SSD and HDD, used bluetooth card from a newer macbook to get BT 4.0 and Continuity/Handoff

Wouldn't trade it for anything. 17" is godtier.
>>
>>52455296
I have multiple networks in my house so if I experience any problems I usually just connect to another one.
But yeah, maybe thats a problem.
>>
>>52453888
I've had no issues with it. Doesn't feel faster but definitely doesn't feel slower. (2011 Macbook)

If you use homebrew, remember to go do 'brew doctor' as there might be some small easy to fix issues after upgrading.

Some of my apps actually increased in stability, such as IntelliJ.

I have osu installed via wine, and also on usb for windows (laptop is windows, desktop is mac, use laptop more than mac since I'm on the go more)

i tried to make an alias of my osu folder on the flash drive, and replaced it with the osu folder in osu.app package, but didn't work

Early 2015 edition. Is there any way to upgrade my SSD?
I got cucked by getting the 128 gb.
>>
So does the MBA line not offer retina display? Is retina something that if you have the budget you shouldn't pass on?
>>
>>52460474
no retina for Amba, that might change for the refresh though. (inb4 meme) and if you have the money get retina. but the air isn't bad, its 1440x900, better than most pc with 1336x768 res by far, and rendering on OS X is crisp anyways. if display is an issue when your watching something or working with HD content, get an external display

I have a 2013 mba and never had any issues with it unless Im looking at it from the side. who works/watches stuff on a laptop from the side though?
apparently, the 2014/2015 airs have even better screens. Comparing them to a retina is no contest but for average everyday use they are better then any other laptop screen.

>>52462423
nothing is perfect, at the very least if its under warranty apple has been known to trade out a new one if there's a problem.

I use my MBA 2012 13" as my daily driver. Mostly do front end development so having crazy amounts of jiggaboos and specs arent a bug thing. Not much into gaymen as i did before so no issue there.

Currently using a first-gen 2012 rMBP (ordered immediately after the announcement at WWDC), with 10.11 installed. Use it for iOS and Android development.

Waiting on the 2016 Skylake revision with USB-C, Thunderbolt 3 and 5K display support (maybe?). I'm fully expecting that Apple will fumble that though and we'll be waiting until 2017 for 5K standalone displays.
