First off, try making a Virtual Machine first. Get VMware on that windows seven machine.
If you're not into that, I imagine it goes something like this.

There's a program called synergy that lets you share one mouse and keyboard between multiple computers, even if they're not running the same operating system. The mouse will move from screen to screen, once it's properly configured, just like it would on a multi-monitor set up.
However, the computers do not recognize each other's displays as displays, and as such you can't drag windows back and forth. The operating systems and all of the things running on them will still be separate.
You might be able to connect to a second X session on one computer from the other via VNC and have two X sessions on the same computer visible at once and sharing a mouse and keyboard, but you still wouldn't be able to drag windows back and forth. I don't know of any software that you could use to achieve that.
I'm thinking about trying Arch, I remember it being pretty ghetto a couple years ago, though.
I've run gentoo in the past but I want something with reasonable install procedures. I'm used to ubuntu based stuff right now. Can't really say I have a compelling reason to try something else other than to scratch an itch, know what I mean?

among those more lightweight ones MATE is the way to go (XFCE's multi monitor support is nigger) since it's a fork of gnome 2, and works okay.
From tiling WM i know of, i3 was sort of created with multi-monitor setups in mind, and yes they work sort of okay though you have to configure it first.
Pick whatever distro you like, but guessing from the amount of displays you're running a discrete GPU, and that's always a problem on Linux. So *buntu LTS or Mint, since they require the least amount of fucking around with proprietary GPU drivers.

Does at least one mpd client have a decent queue? You know, like in cmus or foobar2000, you put a song in there it plays right after that, and then returns to playing from the place it left off/goes on through the playlist from the last song in the queue.
I often make prebuilt playlists and play them in order, and then like to inserting other songs in the middle of it depending on the mood. foobar was ideal for that, because I could make two parallel playlists, make one of these for some particular artist, another for random stuff I feel like listening to, and jump between with them with the queue with relatively little problem. cmus was harder because it always returned to the same place in the playlist after it finished with the queue, which is not always what I wanted. On the other hand, mpd at the moment (tried working with mpc and ncmpcpp) seems to have no easy queue functionality that would allow such behaviour, priorities being theoretically powerful but really unwieldy and ignored in mpc.
The point is, I think of building a custom script that would create such a functionality through hacks with priorities, and I need to know if I missed something or there is already an alternative, to make sure I'm not reinveinting the bicycle.

Unless you want to come across this very same problem every time you try to install something else that is on that USB drive and have to remount again,
then you should just remove the DVD from /etc/apt/sources.list
I believe the logic behind leaving it there is you're meant to use the netinstall ISO if you want to download the latest packages, and you use the full ISO if you want to offline install everything from the DVDs.

My specific problem is: I installed openbox in a non-standard directory and when I try to run openbox config (obconf) it does not find the libraries provided by openbox as expected (namely libobrender.so.32, I checked the library is definitely under the directory I installed openbox).
My actual question is how do I point to these libraries? It works when I use $LD_LIBRARY_PATH but I read that it's bad to use it (citations needed), so what is the good way?

Arch used to be more unstable because settings and configs of all sorts would reset after upgrades. Arch has gotten better at merging settings, so it's more stable now.
