It looks kinda bad but it's better than the average consumer laptop. It's probably the only consumer laptops form 10 years ago that still look good.
>>
>>52440771

Most windows laptops are still gaudy as fuck
>>
>>52440680
I wish there was a universal standard for laptop mobos so I could just put modern parts in the old macbook pro case.
>>
That screen looks much better than most modern windoze laptops today. And the build is still pretty modern even to today's standards. And OS X is based on Unix.

All you have to do is put a display in with a res higher than 1366x768 and you have shat all over 95% of Windows laptops.

Bonus points for IPS and 16:10
>>
>>52441144
nah
>>
>>52440680

I hope they release a redesign in march they need it honestly, the current design is seven fucking years old.
>>
>>52440680

I'm still using one actually. It's a 2006 model. It still runs really fast and looks great. It does run hot as a motherfucker though

These were really the closest thing to a golden age Intel macs ever had. Pro and consumer lines were still consistently styled, the former looked fantastic, professional and timeless, and it didn't have to sacrifice anything to do it. Apple was even somewhat still sticking to the four-box doctrine.

>>52441144
The 760 series truly were some of the best ThinkPads ever. I still like the 600s more though.

power book 12" was the best. My favorite from the PPC era.
OS X Tiger seem a bit outdated though. You might want consider switching to some flavour of linux which receives regular updates
>>

Just grabbed that photo from google, though mine is still kicking on debian-ppc.. or collecting dust with debian-ppc installed on it at least.

Why doesn't anyone make a laptop that has a full width keyboard like that anymore?

i think the keyboards on this make them look dated. The newer, spaced out, black keyboards from the unibody models look much better to me.

what is that?
>>
>>52444628
One of Jobs' big ideas to simplify Apple's massive ass product lineup during the '90s

>consumer desktop (iMac)
>pro desktop (Power Mac and later Mac Pro)
>consumer laptop (iBook and later MacBook)
>pro laptop (PowerBook and later MacBook Pro)

It was kind of muddled a bit with things like the Mac Mini, eMac and Xserve, but they still at least kept the differentiation clear. The Mac Mini and eMac as consumer/education systems were clearly designed as such with clean white plastic, while the more professional-oriented Xserve used the same aluminum build as the Power Mac and PowerBook. IMO it was a pretty good idea, something more OEMs should have copied from them instead of the shitty aluminum with black bezel shit they stole instead.

Maybe for a month or two in 2009, before everyone and their dog made a cheap copy of it. Now it looks old, stale and boring.
>>
>>52440680
oh fuck yes

I'd totally buy a modern apple laptop if it looked like one of these

instead they try and make things thin and it just ends up being shit

I miss Jobs, can we resurrect him and make Apple great again?
>>
It had a way better keyboard than current macs
>>
If only it came with a trackpoint mouse, that would be absolute sex.

The build quality of their laptops keeps coming down with cheaper quality components and materials yet the prices stay inflated.

i got a used one from Craigslist about a month ago, its a 17 " Macbook Pro late 2007, bought as is because the hard drive was dead... i replaced it and its been working perfectly sicne then, however.

last week i opened it up again to clean the fans, and after putting it togheter i noticed that, if a slightly press the top case around the "enter" key, the screen shows weird colors, at first i thought it was because the LCD ribbon was loose but it isnt, its actually the connector itself that, whenever i make the slighlest pressure on it, causes the LCD to go nuts, anybody has ever seen this...

Any suggestions accepted, im gonna do a quick video on the issue this weekend and post it here and also on Reddit, ill keep you informed so you can upvote me, ill give you reputation for helping me solve this issue.
>>
>>52445979
It's a common problem for the 15" and 17" Macbooks specifically. You might be able to get a replacement. http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/mac/widespread-2011-macbook-pro-failures-petition-lawsuit-repair-programme-3497935/

i dont think you read my post anon... ive seen what a damaged GPU looks like and its nothing like the problem mine has, mine gets istorted if i press the LCD ribbon connector, which happens to be exactly under the ENTER key, so it happens a lot, and to fix it i have to apply slight pressure on it again, and it works fine until i apply pressure again.

also install smc fan control and set default to 3000 rpm and high rpm to 4500
it keeps the noise relatively low, but temps WAY down

They look boring. On one hand it could be because they have made the same thing for the last 7 fucking years, on the other hand it really is featureless and has nothing to really distinguish it, and that two-tone color scheme makes it look too much like a cheap bestbuy shitbox.

No it doesn't, sonyshill.
It looks dated as fuck with the massive bezels coupled with 4:3 screen, stupid keyboard placement and a dull early 00s gray color scheme.

Bezels are not much bigger than a ShitBook, 4:3 is a better resolution for portables anyway.

Looks fine to me, if it wasn't 4:3 I would mistake it for something you can still pick up at a big box store around the corner.

You can sperg all you want about the keyboard too but touchpads are grade-A trash for what that thing was designed to do
