Is an alternate DNS a meme?
>>52430671
No, just less politically structured than the standard DNS root servers.
No. ISPs sometimes do really shitty things like redirecting searches to their own shitty search engine. Using an alternate DNS server prevents that.
>>52430679
How? If your ISP blocks a site, having an alternate DNS makes no difference.
>>52430684
I was referring to other DNS infrastructures like OpenNIC that have non-standard TLDs.
>>52430671
Everything is a meme.
>>52430680
What are you even talking about?
>>52430671
Nah. Run a caching resolver (Unbound, resolve to IANA root) and you'll see the difference for yourself.

Does ICANN support a Top Level Domain for imageboards?

Checkmate.
OpenNIC: 1
ICANN: 0

This, to be honest family.

>letting some botnet do your resolving for you

>>52430803
I don't think this actually happens.

Woahdude.jpig
>>52430680
Yea in the UK on BT they redirect all searches to Yahoo! if the domain isn't recognised.
Its shit and hard coded DNS in the router so have edited my local DNS.
>>52430671
Can your ISP snoop on you if you're using an alternate DNS?
>>52433411
but of course.
>>52433411
Yes you idiot
>>52433411
you would have to tunnel everything through ssh including dns traffic to prevent / discourage that
>>52431777
Time Warner and T-Mobile does from experience but it is rare
>>52430671
My ISP is really small and the DNS goes down frequently, so i just use Google DNS and dodge 95% of the problems.
Just try it and if it doesn't feel faster, swap back.
