Greetings.

Skylake CPU are not the sole option for Excellent-Enthusiast. I held on to Haswell for as long as possible, since it is the better value CPU, but 1150 mobos at that price range are now all out of stock, or the price went up from ~$150-$170 to $300+.

Removed the following GPUs:
-R7 260X
-R9 270X
-R9 280X
They are no longer available in most places.

SSD options for 240GB starting at "Very Good", instead of "Superb" in before.

Questions:
-The Haswell i3 still has mobos available for it. Keep as long as possible, or switch to Skylake i3? Switching may mean having RAM swap DDR3->DDR4->DDR3 in the middle of the guide.
-Add M.2 PCIe SSD options to the Extremist/Monstrous tiers?

Your comments, suggestions, and criticisms would be appreciated.

>but 1150 mobos at that price range are now all out of stock, or the price went up from ~$150-$170 to $300+.

Why does this happen? Lower supply due to being discontinued but high demand?
>>
>>52428519
In short, yes.
>>
>>52428519
Skylake has been out for ~5 months now. So I am guessing all the mobos were EOLed and only old stock is left. There may be a mismatch in mobo-manufacturer schedules and Intels, as Haswell CPUs are still available for sale everywhere, and at normal prices.

What is the price of the skylake i3?
>>
>>52428657
$130, $10 more than the Haswell.
>>
>>52428692
Is there a way to determine if it's safe to unlock the flawed cores of the i3 to make it into say an i5?
>>
>>52428692
And the $5 extra of DDR4 instead DDR3, also i doubt 1151 motherboards are cheaper than the 1150 in that tier so for now it would be a good idea to keep the Haswell i3.
>>
>>52428706
The is Intel, not AMD. As far back as I can recall, you can never "unlock" any Intel CPU that Intel does not want you to.
>>
>>52428723
I lean that way myself. Will check 1151 mobos in preparation for a future update though.

This is just another shitty intel shill trying to get idiots to buy their chips.

Hey falcon, have you thought of putting in an itx/console competitor build? Especially low power, ~430w psu builds.
>>

Zen and Zen+ aren't out yet, faggot. Prepare for the coming domination of cheap AMD CPUs the likes you haven't seen since the Athlon days.
>>
>>52428706
They don't do that, the i3s never had any extra cores to begin with, i5/i7s that didn't work on all cores just get trashed.
>>
>>52428789
There have been tonnes of suggestions: mATX/mITX builds, rendering builds, streaming builds, home/office builds. I can get into those, but not too soon.

Anyhow, I mention that the Fair/Good tiers match the current gen consoles.

falcon, in mexico guides could you not add cases from amazon that are imported? shipping costs are too expensive.

Ouch. Will get this fixed over the weekend. Thank you for pointing it out.
>>
>>52429010
Also another thing about the mexico list, you guys should take in consideration the extras a website adds for shipping in comparison of amazon free shipping final prize.

I.e. some sites ask for $40~100 for "Package Security" and $100~250 for shipping when amazon mexico is free for some stuff and ends being cheaper than the alternative website, even when the price of the product is cheaper.
>>
>>52429062
Example.
HAF-X in Amazon mexico is $3299+$99 leaving it on $3,398.
HAF-X in the site in the list(DineroMX) is $3,422+$240+$80 for package insurance leaving it in $3,742.

Thats is a $345 difference.

One more issue:

5820K.

This CPU only supports 28 PCIe lanes, so you need to pick a specific mobo (with enough space between specific PCIe slots) if you want to go dual GPU.

Gigabyte X99-SLI and MSI X99S SLI Plus work fine. ASUS X99-A does not. Do I remove the Asus? Or add a warning?
>>
>>52429894
I don't see the 5820k on the new list.

I would ditch the Asus board though. The MSI and Gigabyte options are more than fine.

>>
>>52428485
>Add M.2 PCIe SSD options to the Extremist/Monstrous tiers?
are these drives really that expensive? A 60-120gb boot drive would be an excellent option for M.2 at lower tiers
>>
>>52429936
I removed it until I can make sure that the motherboard can support dual cards AND have at least one free slot between cards.

>>52429972
Most welcome. It is a community effort.
>>
>>52429978
If you want a speed increase, you get an M.2 PCIe SSD, and those ARE pricey.

Call me blind, but I cannot actually find the USB3_E56 connector on the mobo, just USB3_E12 and USB3_E34. Can anyone confirm?

>>
>>52433648
The G3258 blasts the 860K because of OC but when you take the ability to OC out of the G3240 the equation changes.
The bigger reason is actually the recent trend of games to just fail to run on dual core processors (GTA V and fallout 4 hate dual cores, and some ass creed games that you shouldn't be playing anyway)

Hello,

Are there plans to have an 'office PC' section?
Every build you have includes a dedicated GPU, but for example for my father's PC, he doesn't need it, iGPU is enough.
>>
>>52429894
Asus X99-Deluxe works too. I get x16 on the first slot, and x8 on the third and fifth with my 5820K. I'm surprised the X99-A isn't supposed to work. How did they link the slots to the CPU?
>>
>>52435070
Here's an office PC guide:

1. Get whatever

You're done!
>>
>>52435084
I have no idea. Newegg says that the third PCIe slot runs at x4, but this anon >>52434856 says otherwise.

>>52435070
Guide is still gaming oriented for now. Until I can update the site with a proper backend, I cannot add new non-gaming tables.
>>
>>52431803
It's running at x8.
If he puts it in the fourth fullsize slot, it would be running x4.

>>52435120
My X99-Deluxe got a PCIe lanes switch on the board that allows me to change from x16/x8 with two GPUs to x8/x8/x8 with three GPUs and a 5820K. If it does not have that switch, it's impossible that the third slot runs in x8, if the first and second run in x16/x8 respectively, but x4 is still possible, if he has no M.2 drive installed that blocks the lanes.
>>
>>52435070
Just pick whatever tier you need, and just skip the dGPU or get one a few tiers lower?
>>
>>52435163
Both Newegg and Asus say:
x16, x16/x8, x16/x8/x4

How can a reasonable person read this as anything other than: "The third slot operates at x4"?

But I believe you both are correct. I just need it to be verified by Asus.
>>
>Removed the following GPUs:
>-R9 280X

Ah man. It somehow feels like I bought old shit.
>>
>>52435243
Cannot find it for a good price any more, and the 380X is a good replacement for the same old price.
>>
>>52435243
Not like it's any different from the 380x...
>>
>>52435213
Yes, that's right. The third slot on the X99-A operates at x4.
>>
>>52435243
>>52435273
280X isn't being produced any more, and stocks are low. Doesn't make it bad card, but it lacks some of the features of the 380X.
380X is a whole new chip, with quite a few new features, and much lower power consumption that the 280X for the same performance. Upping the power target alone is enough to perform as well as an overclocked 280X.
>>
>>52435259
Yeah.

Got it about a month and a half ago for 150€. I guess I was lucky enough.
>>
>>52435278
Anon highlighted the third slot here: >>52434856

>>
>>52435213
>x16, x16/x8, x16/x8/x4
>The third slot operates at x4
that's one interpretation. the other is:
"with one card, it runs at x16"
"with two cards, one runs at x16 and the other runs at x8"
"with three cards, one runs at x16, one runs at x8 and one runs at x4"
>>
>>52435332
See the manual here: >>52431895

It is not clear what they mean.
>>
>>52435317
Oh, yeah, right.
So, with a 5820K and a X99-A:
The first slot runs x16
The second slot runs in PCIe 2.0 mode
The third slot runs x8
The fourth slot runs x4

Hope that clears that up.
