Netflix is trying to block proxies and vpns that use their service.

https://media.netflix.com/en/company-blog/evolving-proxy-detection-as-a-global-service
>>
>>52426437
They've been doing so for a long time.
>>
This is just more saber rattling so their content overlords are satisfied.
>>
>>52426499
Successfully though? I still here of lots of people who use vpns to access their service.
>>
>>52426522
No more or less successfully than this attempt will be. They haven't just discovered an ancient curse that blocks VPNs.
>>
>>52426546
Solution: Lock it to the country in the customer's billing address.

There are ways to get around that, but they're MUCH more hassle than turning on a VPN, so 99% of people currently using VPNs won't bother, and the rights holders will be satisfied.
>>
A someone who fell for the Netflix meme from Spain what proxies/vpns do you recommend me to use?

I heard the USA catalog is much better.
>>
>tfw hola is a botnet
>>
>>52427085
I used to use hola but it tourned out to be a botnet so now i use netflix unlocker wich i havent read about and honestly dont care if its also a botnet or not.
>>
>>52427085
AirVPN is pretty good. US Netflix is best for TV, Canadian is best for movies.

It won't last forever (see >>52427055 ), so enjoy it while you can.
>>
What's the best vpn?
>>
>>52427692
VikingVPN, if you're willing to pay for it.
>>
I just use this crap and it seems to work fine
https://tvunblock.com/
Botnet potential is high though

Cancelling sub and going back to piracy if it stops working with my VPN

It's a shame because Netflix is being forced into this by the content holders, but people give all the heat to Netflix
>>
>>52429265
Yeah, it's the same when they pull content from their service. Its literally the fucking media companies pulling it most of the time or them asking too much.
>>
You guys don't use OpenVPN on a server?
>>
>running openvpn on a no name off shore VPS

Yeah im good
>>
>>52427085
Same guy here, I know fuck all about laws or netflix.

Is there a chance that Netflix can ban my account? I'm worried because I share it with my friends and I'm not the owner of it.

Also, how is hola a botnet?
>>
>>52427055
>move to the US for a couple months
>stuck with Canadian Netflix

Now that's a load of horseshit
>>
Funny enough 4chan seems to be by far the best site for blocking VPNs
>>
>>52429797
You can get around that with a 4chan pass

Actually helpful since I use VPNs for a mobile connection, every other IP my provider gives me is permabanned for CP
>>
>>52429379
Hola hosts a proxy server from your machine that other users across the world could connect to. they use your IP as a proxy

>>52429797
People make it easy here though, by using VPNs almost exclusively for shitposting or getting banned.
>>
>>52426437
So if you live in a shit country like Australia, you can't use a DNS IP to America to get decent TV shows?

This makes no sense because you are still paying for their service and its hardly your fault that Netflix offers more TV shows and Movies in America.
>>
>>52426437

A VPN'd torrent box is cheaper by this point. You reap what you sow payfags.
>>
>>52426437
Fine then, I'll just cancel my membership and torrent multiple terabytes of data. Fuck you Netflix.
>>
>>52430186
If it stops working, I have set up my own MiniDLNA + Samba server on my Raspberry Pi that will be able to play thousands of hours of movies and tv shows.
>>
Why are you using a VPN for Netflix?
>>
>>52426437
Dear Netflix, if you block me and force me to stick with the shitty Ausfag lineup I'm just going to go back to pirating all your shit. Kthx.
>>
>>52426522
Kinda. They do ban whole ip ranges related to US datacenters.
>>

>>

>>52430901
Nevermind.
>>
>>52430610
To get around region blocks.

It's likely that Netflix doesn't care but they have to do this to maintain good relations with studios.
>>
>VPN
eh? DNS change still works for me to get american netflix
>>
Use MediaHint. You need to make fake twitter accounts each week tho.
>>
>>52426437
>pay for a vpn to pay for netflix

just fucking pirate
>>
that'll save me $100+ a year. limewire is still around right?
>>
>>52430901
He's not the one requesting or posting CP, he was just given an IP that was previously banned for CP that pretty ends him from posting

Happen 's to me all the time, I actually managed to convince a mod through unban that IP, but the next day my provider gave me another IP that was also banned for CP. That's when I started using VPN+pass
>>
>>52427055
This would be good, I've subscribed to Netflix Japan instead of domestically so I could cancel my DNS subscription if they went that way
>>
>netflix

https://defectivebydesign.org/netflix
>>
Why would they do that? What are they losing if someone uses a different ip to watch a fucking movie?
>>
Poor people. They are paying for a service while they could just dowload from torrent for free.
>>
>>52426437
Another reminder of how /g/ is overrun with trash.

Who the fuck uses Netflix?
>>
>>52434092
They don't lose anything, and this may even cost them customers who bypass shitty local catalogs in favor of the US.
It's probably right holders nagging them to stop that.
>>
>>52429136
Botnet. As in a real actual botnet and not meme bullshit.
>>
>>52430158
It's all about licences. They don't have the licences for the content you want to watch in Australia. The actual licence holders in USA and Australia don't want you to access America Netflix. So they pressure Netflix to uphold an efficient geoblocking. It's the old media powers trying to keep the system the way its always been. Netflix has been on the record about wanting the same content available across the globe, but rights holders and licence deals are in the way.

>Lock it to the country in the customer's billing address.
You could easily bypass it by buying US Netflix cards and using a proxy to sign up tho.
Only downside is that in most third world shitholes with poor catalogs like Mexico the cost is actually cheaper, so you'll be paying a bit more.
>>
>>52427055
>customer's billing address.
You can fake it with a single $5 payment.
>>
>>52434241
> Implying they will ever offer US quality service elsewhere
They're losing titles because every production company thinks goyim will absolutely pay them directly to watch their shitty shows or movies.
Happened with all of Discovery Channel shows.
>>
>>52434092
It's not Netflix. It's because of regional copyright restrictions due to the entertainment industry living a century behind the rest of the world.
>>
>>52426437
It's like they want us to pirate shit.
>>
There is several ways and reasons to use a vpn.
One is for anonymity, here you would log into a vpn a lot of people uses and then all traffic will appear to be from the same source.
Another is for protection where you log into your own server and use that to route the traffic.
I don't see how they will detect this as only a single person will log in from that ip.
>>
>>52430610
because when I go to hotels (which I do for 100+nights a year) I don't want someone sniffing all my traffic on the open wifi
>>
>>52429156
>>52429249
If you disable it within extensions and just enable it when you want US Netflix say, will that minimise the botnet ? Or if even its disabled in chrome. Is it still botnetting?

>>
>>52426437

>>
>>52436426

>>

In theory Netflix could stop piracy by providing all digital content to everyone around the world.

The price is pretty much the same for piracy since you have to pay a VPN ~7$/month to pirate safely.

However because of region blocks, VPN blocks, content holders being niggers and not letting netflix stream their stuff - netflix turned out to be a half baked solution for piracy.

I had netflix up until November 2015 and got tired of the lack of content and dropped my subscription. I guess piracy won't go away anytime soon. Feels wrong though.

Useless since we're talking about region blocks aka people wanting to watch the american catalog while not living in america
>>
>>52436726
I completely agree that it feels wrong, but the studios have failed to provide a solution.

I'm not sure what's worse, being a netflix cuck or being a private tracker cuck. You also can't use a private tracker if you are a comcast cuck like me who has a 250gb data cap.

God fucking dam it. Wish google fiber or some other ISP would remove the comcast infestation here.
>>
>>52434118
They say they don't buy really they do, especially American users :^)
>>
>>52437288
Nah, we don't like netflix anymore. The amount of content available has been steadily decreasing.

Yes? If so, you're already in the botnet, so theirs no need to worry about programs adding you to the buttnuts.

They have really not. Up until now the most common, most well known and, most importantly, free proxies worked like a charm.
