They do it for the people with third world internet who either want a shorter download or need to conserve bandwidth. I mean the vast majority of piracy comes from China, Russia, and South America. So it's not unreasonable to keep those people's needs in mind.

Not understanding that all the software you pirate comes from a legit steal, as a dis-honest worker that runs a supersekrit CLI that can't label something like:

Winblows.AIO.CRACKED.WERKS.TWIT.ME.NOW.gz

But instead must run different little parts that can't be instantly spottesd by nsa and mossad.

>>52388452
No. Don't talk out of your ass, this is definitely not the reason.
>>
>>52388791
Point is that multipart torrent are usually scene releases so the same release maybe available at different sources. If you are missing a .r34 you maybe be able to download it from a filelocker site or xdcc bot or something, also in case of filelockers a failed download will result in just one part lost instead of the whole file (this was relevant with slow connections, not so much these days)
>>
>>52388452
There is literally no advantage to a multipart rar in a torrent. If you are directly downloading it then yes, it is better because if one part gets corrupted then you don't have to download the whole thing over again. But bittorrent has built in error checking and correction, and you gain nothing but annoyance from rarring your files

This is great, thanks man.
>>
>>52388452
No, they do it for two reasons:
1. Usenet and FTP
2. keeping original scene files

And there is literally no disadvantage of using multipart rars. Just put them in different directories and you are set.

Scene program releases
>....a.zip contains ....part1.rar
>....b.zip contains ....part2.rar
and so on, each part is like 5 fucking MB so for a 50MB file you have to unzip 10 of these
>every single zip also contains a file_id.diz and an NFO that has to be overwritten each time

What the fuck is wrong with the app scene?
>>
>download lossily encoded music/video
>it's archived

>larger than original file
fucking why

I have needed to split movies into multiple .tar files to transfer using usb drives running FAT32 but it's retarded to try to compress already compressed stuff even more.
>>
>>52391488
Okay so you know what's really neat? There's a proof of concept way to covertly transfer data between two computers by encoding the data into different sequences of those long delays (resulting in a timeout) and normal responses. Shit's fucking magical.
