This is it. This is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I've been on win10 for almost a month now, and I'm switching all my machines to linux. This OS is fucking apple-tier spyware bullshit where nothing works, nothing is configurable, and everything sucks so hard I literally can't get any fucking work done. The games aren't even worth it anymore, fuck you microsoft.
>>
>>52386453
The EULA speaks for itself. Literally botnet.
>>
>>52386522
Can't say I read it, figured it couldn't be so bad if I turned all the privacy invasion bullshit settings off. Hell, privacy wasn't even my main issue. I thought the productivity shit like virtual desktops finally coming might be worth, but everything is just so fucking broken, wonky or locked-down that there's just no way this is a viable OS. You could spend weeks trying to get this thing to work the way you want it to and it would still be garbage.
>>
>>52386453
Welcome to the club.

Go with an Ubuntu spin if you already know your way around them.

Otherwise try Manjaro or Antergos so you get a rolling release distro, the AUR and the best Linux documentation on earth.
>>
>>52387162
thanks but I'm thinking debian to be honest, I'm familiar with it from a few years back. Worked well then, I'd imagine it's still at least decent.

you must suck at reading.

All you need to change your keyboard layout is literally one config file in /etc/vconsole.conf.

Alternatively, have a program do it for you:

>WINDOWS 8 users yet to make the jump to Windows 8.1 or, dare we say it, Windows 10 will need to take action today as the earlier version of Microsoft's much criticised operating system is effectively end-of-life from Wednesday.

This is, for once, slightly less melodramatic than it sounds. It's no different to, say, Windows 7 requiring you to have a service pack installed to continue support, it's all about changes in terminology.

However, with 2.76 percent of users still on Windows 8, according to this month's figures from Netmarketshare, that's still potentially hundreds of thousands of computers that will stop getting security updates.

Windows 8.1 fares slightly better with 10.6 percent, but there is every chance that it will be overtaken by Windows 10 this quarter.

Part of the problem with Windows 8.1 was its rather messy rollout. Instead of being released through Windows Update like every other update over the past 20 years, Microsoft decided that it would make people use the new Windows Store. This involved engaging with the tiled 'Metro' or 'Modern' interface that no-one wanted, so a lot of people didn't do it at all or took a long time doing it.

Windows 8 figures have gone into a steeper decline since Windows 10 came out, which is very difficult to avoid, as holdouts sidestep Windows 8.1 altogether. And as the nag screens get more insistent, it's very likely that we'll see a sharp death for Windows 8, down below the nominal levels of the much alluded Vista.

The message if you are still on Windows 8 is clear: upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 today, or you could start to see nasties tomorrow far worse than the prospect of Candy Crush Saga being preloaded.

That said, Windows XP is in the same position and still the world's second most popular operating system. So perhaps it's all hype and smokescreen. Which doesn't sound like Microsoft at all. µ

Windows 10 is shit and all reviews are paid

I can't believe this fucking shit I'm seeing right now. Stellar reviews all over the place for something that is LITERALLY, and by that I mean LITERALLY, LITERALLY the same shit as 8.1 except with a shitty meme start menu, different but still shitty phone tier unusable meme apps, and shitty meme assistant Cortana that mines your useless normie data. Oh, and a fucking ripoff of Expose from 5 year's ago Mac OS but with worse animations.

That wouldn't be all that bad but it is missing many features from Windows 8, most important one being COLORFUL TITLE BARS. Now everything is so white it will burn your retinas off, this is fucking ridiculous, you could always change that color in Vista, 7 and 8 but now you can't anymore because fuck you. You can't even change icon spacing for the desktop or pin shit to the left side of the start menu, if you disable recent apps it just shows empty space... WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU NEED THAT WHEN YOU CAN PIN TILES TO THE RIGHT HOLY SHIT EVERYONE IS GOING TO PIN HIS FAVOURITE APPS THERE GOD FUCKING DAMN IT I'M SO FUCKING TRIGGERED RIGHT NOW. And finally it's still full of fucking duplicated apps/programs like the new shitty settings, inconsistent icons, rough animations, shit's that early as fuck (Edge, are you kidding me with this shit? Literally IE but slightly faster in some shill benchmark and MS Paint built in because that's what everyone wants right? Being able to scribble shit on web pages, what's the fucking point?).

TL;DR I am surrounded by shills how do I stop this?

By the way I'm seriously considering switching to Linux or Mac, this shit is the last straw I'm so fucking done with this shit tier pleb os.

Well, obviously it's beta-grade software, and you're a beta tester to test it for free. Why are you refusing to do the work you have been assigned by Microsoft? Also, you are obligated to host updates for other users - not only are you a free beta tester, but also a file server provider for Microsoft.

Sorry, your post is conflicting. "Apple-teir spyware", Apple is one of the most privacy oriented oriented closed source proprietary developers out there. They built a warrant canary into their EULA and they made it so even they can't see your data so when they get requested to show it to somebody they physically can't. Doesn't scratch the surface of what Linux offers, but it's not bad. The bad part about Apple is your other point, "nothing is configurable".

Then there's the glaring issue that you say "spyware"..."where nothing works, nothing is configurable, and everything sucks". None of that has anything to do with spyware.

That said, I support your move to Linux and welcome you with open arms, but I hope if you plan to play the elitist card online, you start presenting yourself as somebody who knows what the fuck their talking about.

Try Debian or openSUSE. Their pretty easy to install and have decent documentation. If you use Debian, make sure to et a live CD with non-free firmware, just in case. (here's a link: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/)

XP had a lot of problems prior to SP1.

7 was solid on launch because it was a glorified incremental update for Vista.

It's always been a mantra that you don't adopt a new Microsoft OS before the first service pack. They are universally problematic.

The problem with 10 from an interface standpoint is that it's still essentially 8.2 under the hood, and a lot of the design mistakes from 8 are still there. It's not so much unfinished as it is jumbled and disorganized. It lacks consistency.

That reminds me. There are claims some of the recent updates for W7 and W8.1 backport some of the botnet features from W10. If this is true, wouldn't it be better to reinstall 7/8.1, disable all updates, then not worry about EOL since you're not getting updates anyway?

Use linux with PCI passthrough to a Windows VM.
- Get a CPU that supports VT-d.
- Have at least two devices that can output video (iGPU + discrete)

Been doing that for 3 months now. It works great. Linux host has the integrated graphics, Windows guest has a R9 270x.

https://semiaccurate.com/2015/10/22/microsoft-intel-lenovo-dell-hp-cmos-think-idiot/

Things have gotten so bad that Microsoft has taken to giving away their OS. What used to be a $99 upgrade is now free. If you take the 110M activation count they just released at face value, that is over $10B in revenue lost. They were so afraid of users not upgrading in ways which would mirror the mass Windows 8.x avoidance that they have given up $10+B so far. In spite of this you might want to think about the market, there are literally billions of PCs out there that could easily and without cost be upgraded to Windows 10.
>>
>>52418016
110M out of several billion is not a large percentage. This is desperation in it’s most basic form. People don’t want Windows, aren’t willing to pay for it, and don’t see the advances as worth paying for. Actually tf the numbers Microsoft released are true, they don’t think it is worth upgrading for free either, the ‘advances’ being offered are not worth the price, free. People just don’t want the crap they are shoveling, it may be necessary for some things but unlike phones and tablets but consumers don’t want it. When you have a market of potential customers unwilling to expend the effort needed to click on an icon for free, not to mention shelling out money, your company is in deep trouble.

The OS Microsoft is foisting is garbage and everyone knows it, there isn’t anything you can do on Windows 10 that you can’t do on Windows 7 or even XP. Barely any faster, significantly worse software, forced ads, forced insecurity, and forced patches that often brick systems. No one on the receiving end of the campaign wonders why people are not upgrading in droves, they are too busy researching phones to buy instead.
