>install Linux Mint
>get latest Firefox update
>it's a few points behind the Ubuntu and other os versions
>can't even add search engines because they decided to modify that so you can only add from the Linux Mint website

Why should I even use this crap when they take away my freedoms?
>>
Use arch.
>>
>>52383734
But I don't want to spend 12 installing my OS.
>>

You don't deserve freedom.

Use architect

Nigga u dum
https://addons.mozilla.org/sk/firefox/addon/add-to-search-bar/
>>
>>52383909
Why would I need an add-on? It's built into Firefox vanilla.
>>
>>52383939
Because Firefox vanilla doesn't have a search engine for literally any search bar on the web.
>>
>>52383972
If you go to a site with search engine support like YouTube, you can add it from the quick search itself.
>>
>>52383744
Use Antergos then
>>
I have no idea what the OP is talking about, I can add search engines just fine.

Also, just this and you're bitching about "muh freedums." Go fucking use arch then, you bleeding edge freedums faggot. Some people want to use an OS that just werks instead of spending hours fucking around every time there's an update.
>>
>>52384017
Or you can right click and Add to Search Bar. That was hard, right?
>>
>>52383744
This is a gentoo meme.

As a complete Linux newbie, it took me two tries to successfully install arch. One with mesa which I screwed up trying to install nvidia, and one that I started fresh with nvidia on.

Two individual tries. I had a successfully installed and useable arch system with whole grain rice desktop included in under 1.5 hours.

Sure a stream lined windows are installed gets it done in 45 minutes after you install all the drivers and software but what do you expect, its meant to be easy.

those searches are how mint makes $
>>
>>52384159
Some versions of mint does not allow installing google search bar due to some licensing agrement or something(yahoo is default). You can go to settings and try to select google but its just not there. Thats why people use an addon.
>>
>>52383714
Ubuntu doesn't do like any codecs or anything so they don't piss some countries laws off, it seems even more locked down...
>>
>>52384266
You shouldn't have to do it that way. Installing an operating system shouldn't be the difficult. There's also Antegos or an Arch installer called Architect, which is my opinion the right way to install vanilla Arch.

>Shouldn't have to do it that way
Subjective. Would I prefer a disc or laser beam that gives me vanilla arch without doing anything but a single button or maybe a drive selector and partitioner, sure.

But having full control over your system installation and your system is kind of what arch is about. Not everybody wants that experience though, I understand. But in my opinion of you don't want the Linux learning experience then stick with Windows or OSX, or if its a serious concern over privacy, workplace requirement then just get Ubuntu.

Mint is terrible.

use chromium, its better

I'm using Antergos myself and I've installed Arch with Architect (on real hardware). There are other ways of learning how your OS works - that's what I'm getting at.

I don't know if this is exclusive to me but somehow i was struggling to get rid of the cache even when using "incognito" in firefox for mint.

What a load of shit, even chrome works better. Fucking SJW developer piece of shit.
>>
Yes you can. Go to their website, they have a full list. Don't like it? Download it from Mozilla's site.

why ? I'm new to linux and Mint is a good starter I think
>>
>>52387055
>It's old

Just install debian testing + cinnamon or ubuntu cinnamon edition

The only reason people think it's popular is fake distrowatch statistics

Bugs take 3 times as long to get patched since they have to flow from upstream->debian->ubuntu->mint

it's moronic really
>>

Yeah, but wheres the fun in that?
