If you're watching a movie on a 60 Hz monitor, you're not actually watching the movie at all, but only a vague approximation of it.

60/24 = 2.5
>>
>>52380477
It's called 3:2 pulldown you faggot
>>
It's all 1s and 0s in the end. All you're watching are numbers.
>>
>>52380504
Yields uneven frame distribution
>>
>>52380526
ayy
>>
>>52380540
no shit
>>
>>52380575
So the OP is still correct.
It's impossible to watch a movie on a 60 Hz monitor.
>>
>playing 24fps media on a monitor set to 60Hz
as if anyone is dumb enough to do that
>>
>>52380630
how much of a difference are we talking?
>>
>>52380591
Would you be able to detect difference, in a blind test, between 24fps on a 60hz monitor and 24fps on a 48hz monitor?
>>
>>52380654
depends on the method, but it's additional judder in already low frame rate shit for no reason

just set your monitor to 72Hz, basically anything can do it
>>
>>52380660
steady-rate pans give it away immediately imo
>>
>>52380670
120hz masterrace
>>
>Not using SVP to convert to 60 FPS
>Not having a PC powerful enough to run SVP

Fags.
>>
>>52380719
I don't like the artifacts.
>>
>>52380477
In Europe they used to speed movies up, to show them on 50fps TV.
>>
>>52380591
>It's impossible to watch a movie on a 60 Hz monitor.
If I could watch a movie in my shitty PAL VHS at 50hz back in the day you can watch a movie in 60hz give me a fucking break
>>
>>52380526
More like thousands of pixels with different colors each, controlled by 1 and 0s
>>
>>52380757
Movies on PAL were sped up by about 4%
You were watching everything faster but you did not have frame jitter.
25/24
>>
>>52380762
Not the case for analog video like VHS,Beta and Laserdisc though
That shit ran on Voodoo Magic
>>
>>52380768
Pics or it didn't happen
>>
>>52380757
Newfags dont know what its like.
>>52380719
Not having a life & staying inddors rather then getting a gf and living a real life.
Whos the fag now?
>>
>>52380768
Yeah no shit
But that's actually worse than a little frame jitter here and there
>>
>>52380670
>it's additional judder in already low frame rate shit

Doesn't the 3:2 pulldown REDUCE judder?

You're basically adding intermediate frames, which should smooth things out.
>>
>>52380785
Reduce but not eliminate.
It is impossible to watch a film on 60 Hz monitors.
>>
>>52380526

Then why don't they just invent screens that can show 0's, 1's and ½'s?

I am a genius.
>>
>>52380810
>It is impossible to watch a film on 60 Hz monitors.
Again with this fucking meme?
No it's not
It's not the most ideal way to watch a movie but you can watch a movie just fine in them

And if you're just that autistic than many 60hz monitors out there have the option of being ran at 48hz
>>
>>52380810
I meant it's better than the original 24fps.

(in b4 you can't watch movies in the cinema)
>>
>>52380831
Do you even know how Cinema's work?

They use a shutter which duplicates each frame 2-3 times(it's usually 3)
>>
>>52380831
no, it's worse than proper 24fps playback
>>
tfw autists deconstruct things non-constructively ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
>>
>>52380843
So?

Doesn't reduce judder.
It's still jerky as fuck.
>>
>>52380830
You're only seeing a vague approximation of the movie.
>>
>>52380876
What are you talking about?
>>
>>52380888
No I'm not because I'm not autistic
>>
>>52380821
Its called trinary and the Soviets already tried that and failed
>>
>>52380893
The duplicate frames are to stop the audience from having seizures.

It doesn't add any intermediate frames that are a combination for two frames, like 60Hz television does.

Do they still film natively at 24 FPS? That seems silly as fuck. Everything should just be 120 Hz.
>>
>>52381200
Did you see The Hobbit? That was filmed at 60fps or something around that and people lost their shit due to it looking weird and 'non-cinematic'.
>>
>>52381239
It was 48fps

I am willing to bet that If they didn't have someone say it was 48fps, no one would complain.
>>
That may sound stupid, but how many fps does anime have? Assuming animation studio had used every single avaible frame in animation

>>52381200
Try telling that to drooling retards that complained about 48Hz Hobbit being "like sped up"

48fps

>>
>>52381261
If you download raws you'll see that the video runs at 120fps, but for most shows every about 5 consecutive frames will be the same. Actual framerates for animes are not that high.
>>
>>52380477
tfw limiting my FPS to 3000

i just limit mine to 120. There's not point going above that.

You are watching a movie but it's no movie at all, it's just light bouncing off and being processed upside down.
>>
>>52381261
24fps

Actual hand drawn animations are 8fps with 2 inbetweens for each key frame. Fast-paced action scenes will get 24fps hand drawn though or it'll look like shit.

Of course there are exceptions, but that's the current industry standard as far as I know.

ever since I started playing FPS, everything fast paced looks like shit: 60fps games, movies in theatres, videos, you just don't see enough details in those fast paced segments

badass

let's start fpsphile cringe thread
>>
imo movies should be made at 60fps cause thats the framerate that real life is
>>
>>52380477
A comparatively low framerate is essential to uphold the suspension of disbelief. 60FPS movies look more like actors on a set than like a movie.
>>
>>52381525
real life is 24fps because that is all our eyes can see, dumbass
>>
>>52381525
No, see>>52381548.
>>
>>52381548
that's purely because we've been conditioned to subconciously recognize that
shitass framerate = wow movie, such suspense, no belief
smooth, realistic framerate = lel soapy operas, laugh tracks amirite?

so* belief

You went full retarded.

>game at 24fps: super realistic fantasy characters doing awesome stuff, sucked right in!
>game at 60fps: just some shitty polygons spinning around and shit
>>
>>52381697
You should see an optometrist.
Tho actually he won't be able to correct your defective visual system that doesn't see frame jitter
>>
>>52381711
The difference is that games don't have realistic motion blur due to the discreet nature of rendering.
It would actually look good if the game was rendered at very high FPS and then reduced to 24 FPS.
>>
>>52381734
I mean discrete
>>
>>52381734
N O N S E N S E
it would look fine, but wouldn't play fine.
>>
>>52381734
realistic motion blur helps, for sure, but 60fps with realistic motion blur will still kick 24fps with realistic motion blur's ass
>>

>playing movies at 60fps means that you never leave your house

You're a massive asshole, anon.
>>
The fact remains that nobody with a 60 Hz monitor is seeing movies as they're intended by their director.
You're basically watching something entirely different, a caricature of the original.
>>
>>52381200
>Do they still film natively at 24 FPS? That seems silly as fuck. Everything should just be 120 Hz.

They film at high resolutions, high bit depth, and save as raw.
That's a lot of data already.

If the output is going to be 24fps you don't gain much from filming at higher frame rates. (maybe slow motion, but you should plan that ahead).
Being able to crop and color grade in post production without quality loss does add a lot.
>>
>>52381923
>as they're intended by their director.

Yes, I'm sure directors put a lot of thoughts into deciding to film in 24fps like everybody else.
>>
>>52381548
The film industry only settled for 24fps because film is expensive and bulky.

Claiming it's somehow better is like retrospectively justifying a bad purchase.
Very human, but utter bullshit.
>>
>>52381979
But they built the thing around 24 fps.
