i'm tired of baking my macbook (17″ 2.5GHz-early 2008, Model A1261)
is there an alternative or an easy way to reflow the gpu permanently?
or is there a certain usage behaviour around it like keeping the fans above a certain RPM?

I'm posting from the 15" early 2008 mbp. when these machines were new i reflowed hundreds of them. This computer has the nvidia 8600m GT which was the subject of a class action lawsuit against nvidia. The hardware is broken there is no permanent fix. Apple extended the warranty and did free replacements for 4 years after the purchase. you need to find a revision 2 motherboard, get a new computer, or keep reflowing it. this wasn't only an apple problem.

of coursee, you can have it reballed. with lead in the solder (which they don't do from default because of muh environment). it will be fixed basically forever

got the smc, that's why I was thinking of keeping it a solid 3500-4000 rpm default setting
dunno whether the cracks in the soldering appear on wild temp apertures or just over time

i believe the actual solder is the problem and was made with different stuff other than the usual? movie g92 was also just hot and fucked. it was fixed in the 9000 series p much.
4000 rpm should keep it good unless you are playing a game or something..
