Windows 7 EOL is in 2020, if you don't like the way Windows is going there is no long term solution other than GNU/Linux.

Worst case scenario is that we arrive in 2020 without a critical mass of users and developers on Linux because then we're fucked.

>>
>>52381628
According to Microsoft no. Windows 10 is a rolling release which they will continuously update and a normal user will have little to no ability to refuse an update that increases the prominence of ads, or that restricts allowed software sources by default.

The idea that there will be a new odd numbered version of Windows is a fantasy much like the fantasies of people in abusive relationships that they can change their partner. Its not going to get better.

Considering that WU service uses more than 250mb ram just by idling, you're really better off disabling it.
Then again, modern day browsers use just as much.
>>
>>52383845
Well actually, since the dawn of this win 10 bollocks they've corrupted the upate service so it consumes upwards of 1GB ram which can suffocate a low RAM system that would otherwise function perfectly.
The entire svchost housing it will be overcome with greed and start stealing ram until you put it down like a sick dog.
I very recently installed a x64 windows 7 ultimate on a machine and within minutes of telling it to begin the update process the mad bastards infested the update service, even now with all the tweaks does it struggle to fight off the madness.

>Now let's suppose that you have a program that is hopelessly hung (Netscape, maybe) and you want to get rid of it. Here's what you do:

> Use the ps command to get the process id (PID) of the process you want to terminate.
> Issue a kill command for that PID.
> If the process refuses to terminate (i.e., it is ignoring the signal), send increasingly harsh signals until it does terminate.

Maybe one day, when I am comfortable enough to leave that ever increasingly getting colder windows carriage to explore new environments.

Boy, I sure want to use windows 10 now.

Golly gee, why wouldn't I sell my soul to M$ or Google. It's not like corporations would ever do anything unethical.
>>
I installed windows 10 then completely disabled tracking.

Whats weird is Linux fan base gets so butt hurt over this statement. They cannot fathom that people on the Internet, including an anti spying company, would make custom software to fix these holes.

Or maybe Linux fans do know that is true, and that spying can be disabled, but they're working under the table to suppress Windows users from spreading the information that spying can be disabled.

Anyway, use Spybot Anti Beacon and Windows will no longer spy. You can also use disablewintracking to remove some bloat.
>>
>>52391280
You shouldn't have to use third party software in the first place, the options to disable tracking should be right in there. But until you block everything related to microsoft at the router level you will still get tracked regardless of what you have turned off or not.
>>
>>52391280
until the next update
see:
>>52377075
>>
>>52391315
See what I mean? "no its impossible to disable tracking! You must be wrong." Linux fans just can't wrap their heads around it. I've checked router logs, and with these software patches on the OS there is no data sent to Ms.

But no, they don't believe me, because somehow I must be wrong. It's like a cultists who can't be convinced that their warped view of the world is factually incorrect.
>>
>>52391369
Do you even know what anti Beacon does? It checks every reboot to see if the stuff is still blocked and reapplies immunizations if anything's been altered.
>>
>>52391380
M$ can put anything on your computer anytime they want.
It's the very definition of botnet.

Unless you disabled updates?
>>
>>52391450
And Spybot anti Beacon can disable any updates that violate my privacy.
>>
>>52389875
What is all this but a fundamental trust in the experience of being watched? Our trust is so strong that it seems to have found its own protective rationality, deeply rooted in Western consciousness. It's an addict's rationality, by which we're unable to refrain from making public a stream of intimate details of our lives and those of children too young to consent. One must wonder about the subtle, unspoken fear of the consequences of refusing to participate in systems of surveillance, or even to critique them seriously. This would be to risk isolation. It would be a trifle paranoid to reveal less -- a little eccentric, not quite rational.
>>
>>52391420

>>52391484
I don't think it's trust so much as laziness.
>fuck it, I'm going to do what's convenient.
It shows with the win10 nagging. People are lazy and "upgrade" because it's easer than fighting back.

>>52391533
