I'm using Fedora and it's pretty great, cli is pretty easy
Also if you don't like gnome a few other great flavors to try are xfce, lxde, enlightenment, and plasma.

What you should do is cheat at those games. Download a trainer or something. You only enjoy the games because of the challenge. If you cheat at them, you'll want to play them a lot less.

it worked for me. I play a lot less, since it's usually such a hassle to properly set up wine to enjoy muh games. But I don't need to go back to windows, because I can play anything on linux anyway.

It worked for me. Also I removed my graphics card and use my onboard Intel graphics only (I'm surprised at how well it works). The thing that might hold you back is time to kill so don't even bother unless you are setting yourself some goals. Part of the reason for me quitting was I wanted to go to the gym and get in shape, I have been going for over two years now and I'm looking pretty good and my company is going well. It's rewarding knowing I have made real life accomplishments. And Linux is still enough to quench my thirst for playing and tweaking my computer.
Arch is a really good distro, don't knock it, Pacman and aur is the shit. No fucking around and searching the web for PPAs and crap. If I can talk you in to using a good Arch based distro, install Antergos it is easy to install and move on with your life. I have found it more up to date (therefore with more features and less bugs) as well as more user friendly than Ubuntu.
