i used to work at pivotal labs, we paired every hour of the day. if they're slower than you then it's just frustrating. if they're fast but selfish then you don't even get to do anything. the best is when you're evenly matched and can go back and forth without getting on each others nerves. i left that job though, pair programming is just not something i can do every single day.

I did pair programming with a female emacs user. We ended up doing it in emacs since I was more comfortable in emacs than she was in vim.
