The D15 has no pump noises and can't fail or destroy my parts. It comes with the fans too.
It is really much for muchness.
>>
Presuming the NAS I just built manages to withstand the test of time, it'll pave the way for me to downsize my tower during my next build (no more need for several hard drives, I can make do with one and an SSD). I feel like a moron for buying a Define R4 last year.

The main thing I worry about with mini-ITX is the firmware not supporting everything that a full sized board would; gotta do some research and find some good ones. I've put all my upgrades on hold for now though, considering the only reason I really NEED to upgrade is the Rift, and I refuse to pay $600 for it. So, might as well wait another generation. My 660 isn't a bad card, I'll survive a couple more years on it. This i5 2500k just keeps on chugging though; nothing I've thrown at it has been too much to handle.

I bought a a full tower. Its supid big. I only have one gpu but I wanted the ample airflow. Living in Australia it does get quite hot.

Tempted to sell it for close to its original price and and pick up a smaller case. Thoughts?
I thought it looked cool. Does not go with my setup at all. I fell for the meme, I hate it.

Are there any ITX motherboards (X99 or Z170 socket) with a PCIe x16 slot and another PCI slot of any kind (i.e. for a TV tuner)?

>>52362039
ITX boards typically only have one slot. The only ones that sort of come close are Shuttle boards, and they're pretty proprietary.

BTX boards have two slots, but they're exceedingly rare.

Which is strange because two-slot cases are quite common. What if I have a single slot graphics card? Haha oh wait, modern single-slot graphics cards don't exist anymore. Not even a GT 710 is single slot.

Mini-ITX motherboards are not physically large enough for more than one slot - they cut off right after the first one. That said, there are a few slightly-larger-than-mini-ITX boards with two slots, like pic related. Being a bit larger, they aren't guaranteed to fit in every ITX case, but most cases that don't have anything directly in front of the motherboard (PSU for example) should be okay.

The real problem is that virtually every mini-ITX case on the market only has two expansion slots, and you'd need three to be able to use a dual-slot GPU + another card. Also, these two-slot boards are invariably designed for budget system builders, and lack high end features.
>>
>>52362748

A10-7850k in my ML08B sits between 50-60C under various loads. That's because I'm using a Noctua only rated for 65W cpus and that A10 is 95W. Just got a Scythe Big Shuriken 2 rev. B (58mm high -- case maxes at 60mm high coolers) but haven't put it in yet

ML08B really only allows cooling through the cpu cooler. There's a 500-page thread on overclock.net where one guy cut custom holes to hook up a closed loop water cooler (somewhere around pg 490)

Pic related. I've since rerouted the mobo headers under the psu and it's much cleaner

What's the point of big cases anyway? Do small cases heat up easier?
I have a big one with a lot of extra space and been thinking about switching to a smaller case if I'll manage to fit it all in there.
>>

they heat up more than a case with more space and thus more airflow but it can be easily mitigated with proper precautions.

Brilliant
I had a bitch of a client (some spoiled Russian kike's son) who wanted the "ultimate gaming machine" that could play his CS:GO at 4K at 100+FPS...

And his 4K TV that was capped at 30 Hz.
So I built the kike and AMD-build (FX-9590, MSI 990FX board, one R9 280X) and charged him for the list MSRP of everything (the FX-9590 had an MSRP of $300+), my hourly fee, and an additional fee for rewiring his home entertainment room for the computer. I then told him to buy a 4K monitor and a better 4K TV, and the kike's father actually bought them for him.

They were literal kikes though. I'm just a kike by trade, and only to clients who think they know better than the person they paid money to build their computer because they didn't know how themselves.
I'm actually a really bad businessman because I try to save my clients as much money as possible so they can get the most for their money. I should be Jewing them for every part, but I can't bring myself to do it on people who are alright.

If for some reason it wasn't though, soon enough Silverstone is going to be releasing a 700W 80+ platinum (!) SFX-L PSU, which would definitely be enough.

Also the i7 has a TDP of a mere 65W. I considered putting the 6700T in there but I'm not sure I'd be ok with 2.8ghz/3.6ghz vs 3.4ghz/4ghz.

This bothered me about most air coolers, but why aren't the heat spreader fins arranged in a circular shape? Most of the air coming out of the fan disperses into a radial pattern, with a dead spot in the center behind the fan hub. If you arrange the heat pipes and the spreader to follow the contours of the fan, wouldn't you be taking advantage of the optimized airflow?

Sort of like what Zalman's been doing, except with more, flatter heat pipes around the edge of the cooler and the fins spreading inside to catch the air stream?

There wasn't much advance in terms of CPU power since Sandy. I'm still using an i7 2600 myself without any problem. If you are not extremely limited by space you should just stay with what you've got. Of course, if you really want to upgrade you'd need to get a new motherboard, given that Intel has changed sockets.

At 20L and 18.6L, respectively, I wouldn't call either the Node 304 or Core 500 "big" for mini-ITX cases, but average. I'd say big is 25L+ (e.g., Prodigy, 250D), and small is <15L, so 20L is right there in the middle.
