It's the same reason everyone needs to vaccinate their children: if enough people are immune to a certain disease (Win32 viruses and malware, NSA backdoors, Microsoft spying) then the herd gains a measure of immunity and the disease stops being able to spread so rapidly. Windows users are the infected and OS X users are the anti-vaxxers in this situation.
More users means more gaymes.
Because they have this mentality of "This works great for my specific and personal needs. Why isn't everyone using this?" then it degrades into circlejerking, shitposting, and forcefully trying to shove down your opinions down everyone else's throats.
Also if you say anything against it they'll resort to yelling overused buzzwords and calling you a meme or someshit like that

The cheapest windows that I could find goes for $69 and all I do on my pc is just internet shit posting. I'd rather save the money and install linux.

When Linux becomes popular, there will be more people interested in attacking the Linux system. Then comes the paid, proprietary anti virus market. And it will spiral into more and more proprietary software and be just another windows except on this version you have to know and learn a lot about computers.
Thus is why Linux still hasn't gained traction.

If and when Linux becomes popular its most likely going to be a bloated version like Ubuntu. Arch, Debian, even mint and others are far too anaesthetics and system oriented to ever cater to normies. The age of learning how things work in order to use them are long over. If the Linux community can't get over that fact and help push normies into Ubuntu or some other easy mode distro then it will literally never take off. Ever.

Until its usable without the command line its a failure. Until you can install software as easily as with Windows its a failure.
It HAS to be a money maker to succeed. It makes MONEY in high end server land and thus it succeeds. On the desktop its socialism at best and like all socialism doomed to failure as nobody has any financial interest in fixing the damned thing.
