German and English are both germanic languages, they have common grammar and syntax and the spelling and/or pronunciation of words is often similar. The similarities between them are not a coincidence.

Unity is a bit of a hog, not a problem for most comps these days but it made my Chromebook run like treacle, xfce and i3 are smooth as hot butter. Also /g/ hates on *buntu because of the Amazon stats crap, which can be turned off. I dislike Ubuntu for both of those reasons, but it's not exactly the anti-christ.

Been using desktop Linux since 2008, and have gone from Debian to Gentoo, back to Debian and now to Mint. Cinnamon is no dwm but it can be pretty comfy imo, and with 16GB of RAM on my laptop I ran out of fucks to give about resource usage.
