Are these good enough for modern games? Do I really need a gpu?

CPU is OK. Literally just OK.

That GPU is NOT for gaymen and will shit the bed on any game newer than the source engine
>>
>>52347452
What do you mean? Is it bad?
>>
>>52347515
It's for a workstation.
>>
>9x faster web browsing than integrated graphics
Why so much VRAM, though?
>>

To catch the eye of to dumb-dumbs like OP
>>

it's an office card.
quadro cards are workstation cards

I won't lie it caught my eye too
>>
>>52347575
An office GPU has more VRAM than a 970, what a time....
>>
>>52347318
No, get at least a AMD R9 380 (4GB) or a GeForce GTX 960, if you want to use the PC to play newer games.
>>
That cpu is a steaming pike of shit, just fork out a little more and get the 8350.
>>
>>52347627
When you're on the topic of graphics cards then there is some context you subhuman piece of shit.

First you get pedantic and now you're ramping up with hostility. You need to figure out what went wrong.

GPU is a nogo, everything else is fine if you are OK with low-medium settings. I am still making do with pic related, which is not ideal, but is fine for my purposes.
>>
>>52348307

AMD: R9 380 if you can find a good price, otherwise R7 370

nVidia: GTX 960 if you can find a good price, otherwise GTX 950

Check your PSU to make sure it can handle a beefier GPU. The 370/950 cards are about as strong as the PlayStation 4 in graphics (maybe a bit stronger). The higher cards will give you enough juice for 1080p @ 60fps at modern games usually BUT in more CPU intensive games you might experience less than the advertised performance due to your CPU.
>>
>>52347318
if you have no money:
>go for AMD

if you have money:
>go for nVIDIA

it's not hard.
>>
Get a XEON E5-2699 v3.

Not OP, but I'm also in the under $200 range and a thinking of a GTX 960 and I saw one on Craigslist for $170, but my friend offered to sell me his GTX 770 for $100.

Which would be better to go for? The card on Craigslist is 4gb while my friends card is 2gb I believe
>>
>>52350216
The 770 for $100 is really cheap, and way more powerful than the 960.
But uses 2 times the energy the 960 does (230W).

If your PSU can support it go for it but your friend is a really good friend, or that card haves something because is somewhat cheap.

Dont get the GTX 960 4GB, its not worth it, its pretty much the same than the 2GB in terms of perfomance.
>>
>>52350216

I'm not sure, but with some googling I found that 770 is generally better than 960. Especially for $70 less.
>>

>The card on Craigslist is 4gb while my friends card is 2gb I believe

VRAM and performance don't really have much of an interaction unless you get a card that uses old tech like GDDR3 (instead of GDDR5, much lower "speed") or you're pushing out a top of the line GPU on a very high resolution setup (1440p/multi-monitor).

At your price category, anything that would even consider dumping 4 GB of data into memory isn't really runnable on the visual fidelity level that would make use of it.
>>
Get your friends 770 for 100 and start saving up for the next one in year or so, when the 770...

-Breaks

Or

-Gets even more driver gimping / obsolete

That cpu is ok. Just ok tho. Pick the Pentium g3258 if you prefer, usually has around the same power but works better on unoptimized games and consumes less power. Also get the cheapest motherboard you can find that support your cpu, within reason.

That 740 is garbage, get a 750ti its 2x as fast and costs only a bit more. If you want to go amd you can pick up an r7 265 which is just a little bit better than the 750ti (also should handle 1080p resolutions better). The vram of a card doesnt matter in a cheap build, 2gb is all you need, you wouldn't be able to tell any difference with 4gb

Ram doesnt really matter as long as you have 2x 4gb sticks. Get the cheapest 2x4gb combo and you're ok.

Also look on trusted sites like amazon to find better ideas on what the prices should be. And be sure the power supply can hold the consumption from your hardware, there are a few sites that calculate it for you
>>
>>52350727
So you are telling him to get a MSI Z97 PC MATE and a G3258?

a G3250 and a B85 motherboard seems like a better idea.
>>
>>52350756
You dont have to overclock your Pentium, even tho its unlocked. Get a 40$ b85 motherboard and the Pentium with the better bang/buck. I suggested the g3258 because its from the devil's Canyon refresh and tends to run cooler than other pentiums

>get suckered in by some computer store employee to get an FX5500 with 256MB of MAXIMUM GAYMEN POWER
>have to run DX9 games in low settings from day 1

Sometimes we need to learn the hard way
>>
OP here, I'm at work right now. So I should only get an r9 380 or a 750ti? Can they both run Fallout 4? What about the processor and ram? Thanks ( I already have a case it's a diablotek with a 400W PSU.)
>>
>>52351565
if the PSU came with the case, replace immediatly. 380 is miles above the 750ti

Hate to Hijack this thread, but im buying GTX 960 as its the best in my price range

Ive found two that seems really good to get, but im not sure which is best, They are both the same price

http://www.ebuyer.com/704631-gigabyte-gtx-960-oc-4gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-gv-n960wf2oc-4gd

This one has 4gb

While this one

Seems to have better clock speed but lower ram.

Which would be best to get?
