I think that it's a great idea and I wouldn't have doubted to do the same if I was in their position. What is questionable here is what they might do with the data itself (feed the botnet, of course) but the way of using captchas is quite cool.

How is this training the AI? They already know the answer. For example, If I get a picture and am asked to select all school buses and pick the trucks instead, I get another shittest.
Captcha needs to know the correct answer in the first place in order for you to put in an answer. At best, you are simply "confirming" data that their machine learning system already deciphered.
That said, I remember when it wanted me to click on all the sandwiches and showed hamburgers instead, and proposed disgusting vegetarian shakes as "drinks".

It knows some of the answeres and it intends that you teach them more. Like the captcha with words, there were usually two words, one that looked normal and the other was all twisted. Normally you had to write the "normal" word, since google already knew what it was and the "twisted" word was there to improve the software to recognize letters, and you could wrute whatever you wanted in that second word.

Except this new captcha is nothing like that. I just gives you 9 images and you have to select everything that fits. I have often tried to select additional images or slightly the same. For example sometimes I get "select street signs" and I also select traffic signs, but it catches me.
