Linux (or GNU/Linux as Starrumanu calls it) isn't making it on the desktop simply because most consumers don't see the value in it or are too lazy to set it up and maintain it and perhaps don't have the time. They are not to be blamed for being that way.
Linux has many uses in the enterprise world, especially for running servers. For desktops and daily use however, it's a really niche software that has a world of advantages to some but for the average person the cons aren't worth it.
