I said HDbits in my post as an example but it applies to other rare trackers too. The problem is most of them are closing down on invites forums and closing their threads. Nowadays you need a very specific rank on a very specific tracker to even get a chance of getting in. Other trackers like emp are impossible now no matter what rank/tracker you're in. Madokami is an FTP/DDL site.
Basically you can FTP down files or you can use something like jdownloader to grab manga off it. Although Mado mostly contains ripped manga none of it should have watermarks/distortions so it's good if you want to keep a copy of the favourite manga you've read or to download it to read.
Also some anons stash the officially translated versions on that site too.

FTP: I think they prefer that you use HTTP. But jdownloader I personally think is faster because you can just load all the manga up and forget and the program will handle all the unzipping for you. FTP might be good too though
Between Nyaa, /a/rchives, Bakabt, Baka tsuki, Madokami, exhentai (for artbooks) there's much more stuff on that combined than AB and no seedtime/ratio requirements. But AB's kinda good too in its own way. It really depends how lazy I am.

It will get you banned because it is mathematically obvious to a three year old that your download is having no impact on your ratio whilst it is simultaneously affecting someone else's ratio.
On the big trackers it will get you treebanned and banned on all your PT accounts because they share ban information. You might get away with it but only if the admins are completely technologically incompetent.
Or you could use a seedbox/vps but it doesn't exactly help. On other private trackers they might not care but you wouldn't be able to upload either and it would quickly get your downloading privileges disabled if you aren't able to maintain your ratio.

What I do is I search for something on HDB first. If it's not on there, I go to PTP and find it.

I do it the other way around. For any movie, I first check PTP. I can easily see all the ratings, and the reviews are one click away. I can watch the trailer with one click (which could be a security issue, but fuck it is so convenient). I then if there is a GP, and check if it is any good. Then off to HDB and then AHD.
