It's usable, and I've had one before (Win 8) but Microsoft went full spy-mode recently, so they lost me as a customer.

I had one. I couldn't stand that no first party devs supported the fucking thing. Also, Nokia Maps or whatever was just dead wrong half the time in my area (I live in a capital city in the US), forcing me to use a shitty browser based google maps replacement.
Windows can't keep the thing alive because nobody wants anything to do with them.

You cant for example create hidden folder on phone and put files there to prevent displaying them in gallery. If you create hidden folder, that retarded file explorer wont see it. A droid offers me full file explorer merging all the disks in 1 app. Full pc like explorer. Just like on symbian.

It turns out that high contrast mode is worthless if you actually want to do things, so now it's just white and grey plus color.
I got tired of the back being slippery so I bought a leather case.
These things seem to be made-upon-order so it isn't here yet.

This os looks good at first, but the longer you own it, the deeper you go into it it becomes more and more crippled.

I have honestly been trying to switch from Android to WP. Got a Lumia 635 for free from a friend, came with WP8 not even 8.1 because ATT wouldn't push the update.
Tried to use a podcast app, they're all shit, the phone would just reboot because you looked at it the wrong way, decide to upgrade to WP10 through the insider program.
WP10 fixes a lot of problems but not all, phone still just resets just because, apps take for fucking ever to get something done, phone still reboots on a whim, and you're in permanent beta mode because insider program.
And yeah there are no apps, there is no multitasking, you can't for example, record sound and have your screen go to sleep, once it goes to sleep everything stops.
Windows Phone is basically the new feature phone that has really nice sound quality and a full html browser, don't expect anything past that.

I have a 520 too. It can be a bit clunky and slow switching apps and bluetooth is somewhat unreliable but for what I paid for it, it was a good value.
Got a win8.1 phone (lumina 635 512mb) after my old android phone started BSOD on boot. (Pantech burst, some modem issue.) Absolutely hate this phone. The two pros to it are durable (Like my last phone) and a good screen. I don't use a case, and I haven't gotten a single scratch. Brightness is great in direct sunlight too.
Apps are super lacking, and I can't really tweak the phone to be mine as I could with android. Also miss fun linux nerd stuffz.

You should probably flash it with non carrier rom. I assume your phone lacks the denim firmware since it's still in WP8. The firmware was a big improvement, and your problems with wp10 come from the lack of denim firmware.
What's weird is that I'm pretty sure the 635 was released with wp8.1 loaded and it was the first phone released with 8.1.
Try unbrand your rom, there are tutorials on the internet, that way you'll be able to get denim firmware. I had a 635 (before upgrading to a 640), and it's a very nice phone.

Yes, Lumia 735.
Bought it for €100 from Dutch Ebay because I bricked my Moto /g/ a week before I went on holiday and needed something to use for navigation and to take pictures. Couldn't have wished for more really, the camera is good and the offline mode for the maps app is great as well if you're on holiday.
Anyway on the long run it might be very frustrating though, apps get rarely updated and many apps are missing. It's a good phone if you use a phone as a tool but if your life revolves around your phone get something else.

Pretty much this. I like this phone because it does the job and is nicely featured. I guess if I needed more apps I'd go the android way, but I don't use apps except from a book reader and runtastic, so I'm ok with it.

I'm more referring to the fact that if they release a new generation of flagship phones next year, it'll actually be the first Lumia Phone wholly designed in house by Microsoft and Panos Panay - the guy who designs the Surface Book and Surface Pro.
