Rotring 800 doesn't break lead if you tighten the gold tip on the mechanism. Also, switch to a hard lead.

Best ones for me are the Pentel P207 (which I used for years), Rotring 800 (absolute godtier due to weight in hand).
Pentel Smash is surprisingly good. OHTO is weird but nice. Kurutoga has that great mechanism but unfortunately needs to come with a metal body. Staedtler 925-05 is probably the best in its price range after the Pentel P205/207.
Get yourself some 2B/4B lead. Get yourself some nice paper like Rhodia.
Most of all, get yourself a serious form of work for these instruments. Kinda fucking lame to have a mech pencil without an application. It's not like a Montblanc/Parker that a rich guy uses to sign documents. These are for work

I own this pencil. Over time, the lead gets a weaker grip on the retainer, so if you write hard, the lead might push back inside the pencil (or break).
Also, the grip doesn't really work. The barrel of the pencil is still very slippery, but still not hard to hold.
Sometimes when pulling the eraser cover off, the eraser comes off with it, spilling all of your lead out.
This issues may just be with me, but it's still a great pencil and I'd recommend it for anyone. I'm using the .3mm variant.

Bics are cheaper, but really, I just write with anything within my reach, and quite often, that ends up being some promotional pen.
Also because I tend to care more about writing itself, and the reasons why I do so, than caring about what sort of writing fedora I use.
