I can get why this project exist and honestly it's cool
but old cars (these without elaborate computers which cause people to die because broken closed software lol) shouldn't be considered closed source.
I mean you can buy an old car, run it as you wish and for whatever purpose (freedom 0)
dissasemble it to the very small pieces and introduce your own modifications (freedom 1)
You can buy as many cars of the same model as it's physically possible, and give them or sell them to anyone (freedom 2)
You can sell modified version of the car and document your modifications and distribute the documentation so anyone wishing can make improvements to your modification and use them on their own vehicle (freedom 3).
There you go, four essential software freedoms applied to an old car, so yeah, old cars are open source.
