Just bought a GTX 970 for $300.

Did I fuck up, because I'm reading the next version of Nvidia GPU (Pascal) is half the nm size 28 vs 14.

I don't want to put you under any pressure this is just to ask I don't expect you to know the future-- would waiting the year give me huge boosts in performance at a similar price point?
>>
You fucked up. 970 loses consistently against AMD's 390 and they're cheaper too. inb4 "muh power efficiency" and "muh drivers".

Get fucked. Serves you right for buying a product without looking at alternatives.

trip threes :)

I did look, my PSU is a 750 watt gold modular Seasonic. I used a free power calculator. Meaning I can SLI the 970 in the future and I couldn't Crossfire the 390 it is my deciding factor.

Upgrading from SLI 460s as one of the fans broke.
>>
>>52330481

bumping for knowledge-- could the new architecture render my purchase obsolete as close as summer 2016?
>>
>>52330384
I bought a 970 because my shitty 400w psu probably couldnt handle a 390 and i didnt want to risk it.
>>
>>52330688
Yes. Nvidia cards are obsoleted already. The 970 is a shit card for DX12 and has huge latency with VR. You will get a virtualized DX12 support with 970 instead of hardware DX12 support.
>>
>>52330384
I had a choice between the 970 and the 390 and I went with the 970 because I will never fall for the AMD GPU meme again.
>>
>>52330481
SLI gives microstutter.
>>
>>52330333
>would waiting the year give me huge boosts in performance at a similar price point?

Who said it was gonna be the same price, I was under the impression that the new generation of cards where gonna be more expensive, am I wrong?
After all, they have to cover the costs of these, more expensive manufacturing costs.

>3.5GB of vram in 2016
>meanwhile games are eating 4GB for breakfast.
Yes im sure you did good.
>>
>>52330481
Except SLI is shit and microstutter is real pain in the ass.
Enjoy your games I guess.
>>
>>52330871
Why do people keep pretending that VR is the primary concern of everyone out there? This reminds me of when the ps3 started pushing 3d video games.
>>
>>52330333
Is she rip?
>>
>>52331045

In my experience I haven't much of an issue with it using my 460s-- then again I usually don't buy games until they're a few months old at the earliest

I keep hearing this but I havent exactly seen what games people are referring to. Are you referring to just cause? or any other games?

Nvidia current drivers keep on giving me blackscreens, tdr hangups and bluescreen. Fuck this.

>>52330333
Should've got 390 purely for the vram

Saying that I own a Fury X

just ppl running 970 in sli get ram issues with 4k resolution.

Any AAA game you want to play over 1080p

Is it just me, or do certain women just have a certain air of attractiveness that doesn't suit other forms of attractiveness?

I mean, the woman in OP's pic is certainly attractive. But the clothes she's wearing doesn't suit her very well. I'd expect to see that kind of clothing on a drunk party slut or something. Her face looks more appropriate in office attire or something. She could model for stock photos as a secretary or lawyer and fit the role perfectly.

I got one and it runs most games I play at acceptable framerates. The 3.5GB thing does suck a little but I will probably be upgrading at the end of this year to whatever card is better.
>>
>>52330333
Does anyone else get an uncanny valley effect from her? There is just something weirdly smooth about her face and robotic in her manner.

AMD winds hands down on Multi-GPU because they run through the PCIe bus which reduces micro-stutter and they usually have more VRAM and bandwidth this is important because two GPU's flash their VRAM togather and share it along with the bandwidth. So two hawaii GPU's with 512-bit memory buses and 8gb of VRAM will absolutely curb stomp gtx 970/980's in SLI they will only run well up to 3-4gb of VRAM draw on sub 4K resolution the second res goes to 4K or 1440p 21-9 and the second rendering draws more than 4gb of VRAM they will fucking stutter and crash while the AMD cards keep chugging.

so multi-GPU is firmly in AMD's camp and because of their asynchronous shaders on next gen DX12 games they get a big performance boost while Maxwell stays the same or goes down slightly.

So instead you fell for a cuck card that will be left in the dust as soon as the Pascal cards come out either later this year or early next year? Get fucked, idiot.
>>
>>52330384

Power efficiency means the $30 you" save" by taking the 390 is made up for in only a year or two

>Just Cause 3
>GTA V
>Far Cry 4
>Watch Dogs
>Assassins Creed Unity
>Assassins Creed Syndicate
>Shadow of Mordor
>Modded Skyrim
>Total War: Attila
>Rainbow Six Siege
>Star Citizen (reportedly)
Are all games that I can name off the top of my head that go past 3.5 GB VRAM usage at 1080p, the 970's "sweet spot." This list will keep growing as the year goes on. Forget about 1440p. Also take into consideration as soon as the Pascal cards come out Maxwell cards will be left in the dust and will start to age like milk, much like the Kepler cards.

Stop lying.
GTA 5 never uses more than 2.5GB at 1080p, unless you're running settings that would make it run at less than 50fps even if you had 8 gigs of vram.
>>
>>52330384
>AMD

top kek, do people still buy that trash?
>>
>>52338234
When I maxed everything out at 900p it went up to 3.7gb.
>>
>>52337910
I run games in 1440p every day no problem negro.
>>
>>52338234
All maxed out minus the advanced settings with MSAA 4x. It goes over 3.5 GB at 1080p.

>>52338735
With settings turned down, no doubt. Also consider what I said:
>Also take into consideration as soon as the Pascal cards come out Maxwell cards will be left in the dust and will start to age like milk, much like the Kepler cards.

When exactly Q2 is Pascal coming out/how much will they cost?

>would waiting the year give me huge boosts in performance at a similar price point?
Of course, retard. The question is will you be able to wait for it? Depending on what resolution and load you're running it on, it could be already outdated or eternally futureproof. Maybe you're doing VR at 144Hz with 16x AA, or perhaps you're just jerking it to 4K traps, you fag.
>>
>>52330333
It would only be a mistake if you were planing on 4k gaming.
>>
>>52330384
AMD cards are a shit. Overhead and stuttering everywhere.

It wiudlnt be a bad assumption graphics card prices have been going up for a while at least on the mid end high end doesn't seem much more to me.

>>52330384
>>52342865
And without CUDA anything but gaming is going to be slow as shit too.
All the rendering applications are designed for CUDA these days.
