Why? as long as you aren't seeding they won't come after you. Its not illegal to torrent in alot of countries, or at least not really enforced.

What you non-pirates need to realize is once a films retail value is less than $10 MPAA and these other organizations stop giving a shit. Just don't torrent a movie within the first month of its release and you are generally fine.

I don't think you understand what i'm saying.
Put ANY distro on a USB stick and boot from USB, using linux to copy your 5TB. You will halve the time required for the copy.

The top drive transfer in the OP is running at 115mb/s, unless he's using some top-tier enterprise shit that means he's maxing the drive out and it's not possible to improve the transfer speed

if the average size is below 10GB per movie, just delete everything and re-download in good quality.
>>

It's almost like you never heard of axxo

It's also 1.4gb if they're blank files, now factor in separate folders and possibly an info file.

avg 2.5gb for 1080p. run with a 13ft projector screen looks better than movie theater quality

at that bitrate, they're gonna look worse then DVDs and sound worse than a phone call. why even bother?

>>52330945
i prefer remuxes, but straight rips are OK too, just more work. of course, most of my movies are still x264 encodes, because finding remuxes/rips isn't always easy.

and i actually watch them on my 27" monitor, sitting maybe 70cm away, through my headphones.
>>
>>52331022
you're an idiot if you really think that true.
>>
>>52331022
>i prefer remuxes, but straight rips are OK too, just more work.

Honestly the reason I'd prefer remuxes over encodes any day is because encodes can possibly have encoding bugs as they are all made by hobbyists. And if they have, then you have to find another encode that maybe hopefully doesn't.

With a remux, you don't have to worry about all of that (and if the movie still has an encoding bug then it is either your decoder having an error - easy enough to test - or it was a factory error that you can't do shit about anyway so might as well not worry).
>>
>>52331074
think what true?

>>52331105
yeah, that's one of the reasons i'll download remuxes rather than encodes, if possible

Beginning collectionfag here, could use some advice.

I finally filled my 3TB and picked up another three of them, and a HDD dock as well. The idea was to use one to expand my storage, and the other two to keep as backups of those. Now, the two things are:

>1
What kind of logic do you guys use to split your collections between drives? Just fill them up chronologically and use something else to see them as one big pool? Arbitrarily stick TV here, Movies there, Animu elsewhere and throw another drive into the mix when one fills, despite empty space on other drives? Fuck, it just makes no sense to me to have a pool of drives bigger than SSD+HDD.

>2
I plan to do monthly backups and keep those drives at work 29 days of the month. What do you guys use for that? What would be best in my case? Just copying files over normally and skipping dupes or something?

Only 12TB now. Re-ripping Blu-ray / DVD / HDDVD collection after a catastrophic mid-plane failure in my SAN.

Before failure? 74TB movies (all full frame with no compression), 22TB in shows, and about 10TB of music.

All using 4TB drives in 1 Dell MD3200, and 5 MD1200's.

Ain't even mad...

Unless you live in a natural disaster prone area or are working with mission critical data that's really not necessary

I'd like to hoard data but I would also like some level of automated redundancy or resiliency against bitrot or damaged disks. Are there any good solutions for this aimed at offline storage?
