In case someone recommends an optimised version of Firefox that they say is faster than Chrome counter him by green posting

I really can't understand how Firefox switched from being the savior of browsers to running after Chrome's tail. What happened?

I remember using it back in 2010, when it was still in 3.6 or something, and now we are on version 40 or something?

The only reason it became popular was because of Google's advertising. Before that it was only used by KDEfags and Macfags
>>
I love firefox mainly because it reminds me of Holo the wise wolf, even though she's a wolf.

What I don't understand is chrome proved fast browser is chosen over pretty much anything else, why are they still doing updates that slow it down? How are these getting approved?

Also, is there actually a logical choice for browser? All of them have serious downsides.

Can you make Chrome use your RAM as a cache yet? Last I checked Chrome still never cleared its cache and so you'd have issues like 56GB of your SSD being used just by Chrome's cache. I don't need to worry about any of that with Firefox or any of its forks.
>>
>>52325632
But I hate google. And I try not to support their endeavor to monopolize the personalized ad market.
>>
>>52323041
As someone who recently switched to Chrome after using Firefox for 10+ years, I have to agree that it is much better.

Really the only thing holding back Chrome in the past was the lack of good ad-blocking, but uBlock Origin takes care of that now.
>>
>>52325714
Explain how it's better. I'm a Chrome user that switched to Firefox and I could never go back.
>>
Interesting, I have only recently moved to Firefox from Chrome and I really enjoy it. I left firefox when it got bloated and shit and returned when it got fixed (around the time when Australis was introduced)
>>
>>52325722
>Explain how it's better
It's just so much faster and more responsive. Firefox would slow to a crawl and start freezing up with too many tabs open, whereas Chrome never does that.

I literally have the inverse problem. Chrome, even a clean install, regularly freezes up when I have more than a couple of tabs open. After switching to Firefox (Aurora channel if that makes a difference), the only problem I've ever encountered is that occasionally Youtube misbehaves, but that's not really an issue for me.
It just feels better in general to use Firefox.
>>52325752

By having Vimperator and TreeStyleTabs.

The chrome replacements for those are shit because they can't hook to the interface properly and do all the keybindings they really want to.

>>
>>52325990
Apart from editing the source code, no. For example, extensions are not allowed to change the user interface, whereas XUL (Firefox) does allow that.
>>
>>52325836
I actually prefer Tabs Outliner for Chrome than TreeStyleTabs. Firefox just breaks at around 100 open tabs, stops rendering things properly. In Tabs Outliner I can just save and close them (they still remain in the tree view). Also, Firefox becomes really slow at around 50 tabs (especially when you open a few tabs for loading at the same time).
I'm also considering getting some minimalistic browser (like surf) and writing some tree-view wrapping for it. Haven't written any real program yet so I guess something like that could be a good practice.
>>
>>52326041
*to TreeStyleTabs
>>
>>52326041
What a pain for nothing, just save them all as boormarks and feel free to close them.
>>
>>52326041
Maybe YMMV. Reason I switched back to Firefox was Chrome slows my computer when there are more than ten tabs

My experience is better because I have the functionality that I want. It's not hard to comprehend really.

Jesus Christ, you really are stupid. What part of "jailed" don't you get?

>>52326041
> Firefox just breaks at around 100 open tabs

No, it works fine. There's Session Manager for storing and loading tabs.
>>
>>52326060
I'm just too lazy to use bookmarks. I can just save them in one click while preserving the view. All my tabs in one place.
Anyway, do bookmarks even preserve tree structure?
>>
>>52326105
Just restart Firefox, doing so will unload all tabs from memory, they keep tree style and will be reloaded when you activate them. There is no restart button, but it's possible to make one via keyconfig, FireGestures or Menu Wizard.
>>
>>52326095
No, it doesn't work fine at all for me. It starts rendering black rectangles everywhere and becomes really unresponsive. Tried to fix it, but couldn't find a working solution.
>>
>>52323041
Nice marketing faggot.
>>
>>52326095
Oh, you're just a cunt; I thought you were actually somewhat intelligent. You acknowledged that your browser of choice is less efficient at browsing. Most people would say that having an objectively worse experience is the inferior option.
>What part of "jailed" don't you get?
The part where you didn't explain yourself. The word "jailed" has numerous colloquial meanings so you'd have to be an idiot to act like there is only one way to understand the word.
>>
>>52326149
Yeah, I still use Firefox for the tabs I use on daily basis and Chrome for researching stuff. Restarting it and wait for 30 tabs I was just using in the session to load is too annoying.

That's a bit of a different situation from your computer simply struggling to deal with having 30 tabs open. That said, I haven't really noticed Fox lagging too much when opening multiple tabs.

4 cores, 50 tabs, about 5% cpu usage here. Only time it really goes high is shitty script-infested sites.
