Is this the only non-phone music player to own in the year 2016?

>$100
>supports autistic lossless
>non-autistic look

Is it the best music player for the common man and the budget music player for the neckbeard autist?
>>
Not OP but curious if this would be a noticeable improvement over a rockbox'd sansa clip+?
>>

>>

This is a non-issue
>>
>>52321127
right but its the only bad point i found on it
>>
>>52321021
only if you want to see album art and support heavier headphones without having to use an amp

otherwise it still plays all the same sound files, still has unlimited memory due to removable SDcard

You improvement will be:colored album art and an easier to read screen

Buy a Nokia N8. Superior Audio and display.
>>
>>52320925
I bought it about a week ago. It is very good. In canada its fucking 150$ still worth it.
>>
>>52321021
Clip+ earned it's reputation for its great price to performance ratio.

Sadly it has been discontinued by manufacture and remaining "new" ones have seen a huge price hike, practically doubling in price.

Aslo note that newer "clip" models have been said to have lower build quality and no rockbox support.
>>
>>52321285
>>52321285
actual recommendation? Not against using an outdated phone for its music playing capabilities, but is it really not surpassed by any audio-specific device in its price range?
>>
>>52321357
Nokia n8 is expensive for nothing
>>
>>52320925
Of course not. Clickwheel iPods are great, and for high capacity PMPs certain models can have their HDDs upgraded with CF cards or mSATA SSDs

Are you telling me that my iPod classic 160gb could possibly be upgraded?

very great and it didn't break $100 for me to have a 5th gen iPod Classic with 120GB SSD

I'm telling you it can for sure.
>>
>>52321675
Speed isn't my current worry, it's capacity. Could I put something like a 320gb in there? Are there guides available for this? Should I just google this shit?
>>
>>52321657
Yes
Look up the CF mod
Specifically the one where you replace the HDD with a CF adapter that allows for 2 micro SD cards
>400GB iPod Classic
>>
I just use my phone...once we get SD cards that exceed 160 GB we'll have something better than an ipod classic.
>>
>>52321357
>is it really not surpassed by any audio-specific device in its price range?

No. It has a high end dac inside. It cost €600 when it came out.

Just use your phone m8 everyone I know irl uses their phone with their $500+ iems

The main buyers of those daps are sub $100~$200 iem owners thinking they're getting more out of their equipment but the money could be spent on better iems instead

>>
>>52321778
Honestly, I don't understand the point of worrying about much else on an MP3 player. I understand being an audiophile when you're at home in a near-silent environment with high-end speakers or headphones, but if you're using an MP3 player you're probably on the go - outside noise will cause more of an issue than lower quality music. I'd rather have an iPod filled with 320kbps mp3s and leave the FLACs at home.

Hey i encode all my mp3 at ~65kbps but my $1000 IEMs make it sound like CD quality.

just trying to point out that spending $500 on IEMs for a phone. is like putting 24 karat gold flakes on fast food. it won't improve the quality or flavor of it.

I feel sorry for you if you think modern socs have a humanly perceptible sq difference than those tx $.10 ics you're trying so hard to defend.

It's an endless loop of mediocrity for people like you. you pair your entry level $100 iems with your equally shit overpriced $100 dap strapped together with those livestrong bands because it gives the illusion that you've made it or something, all without spending much and you get to look like those cool kids with actual totl setups.

Whatever dude as long as you enjoy it. But there's literally nothing wrong with using your phone and you'll get put down every single time you say otherwise.
>>
I bought one this summer. Sound quality is very nice, but the wheel is a dogshit. And the firmware is too minimalistic imo, without even the clock. Rockbox would be really nice.
It is very bulky bulky even without tge silicone case. Dust gets under the screen very easily.
I fucking broke my fiio in an attempt to disassemble it to remove the dust - the wheel is a double dogshite. Don't ever do that yourself.
At the end just bought an used clip+ and have no issues with it.

>No support for FLAC or Ogg
Stock firmware can play ALAC and Rockbox is a thing
>Crummy DAC
Depends on the model
>Requires hardware mod to expand storage
And?
>price for used is around the same as a new X1
So wait, the thing is $100 and you need to buy a microSD card before you can even add music? For that price I bought a 5th gen iPod Classic, mSATA adapter, 120GB mSATA SSD, and replacement hosing for the iPod
>requires proprietary software to sync it
False for both stock and Rockbox firmwares
>>
>>52323046
>5th gen iPod Classic
wierd I couldn't find a new one for under $160

Yet a x1 + 128GB microSD is only $150

>why do you lie on the internet
>>
Got this one a week ago, a HiFiMan HM-700, sounds damn great, supports lossless and has a 15 hours playback battery, also looks like you got it from space.
It's all about the music, it doesn't even have a clock. Just love it.
Bad thing is, my new earbuds (some Shure SE215) are so good and low impedance that there is some hissing going on, I'm planning to fix it with an external volume regulator.
Got it on B&H (JewLand) for around $149 with a two year international guarantee.

I have one of these and the lack of a basic search function kills me. also, when scrolling through a list of artists, if you continue to scroll fast it doesnt start skipping by letter every incremental click, it just stays per artist. so going from A to M is a fucking chore if you have a large full SD card.

Other than that, its great.

Why cant I have a small mp3 player with a minimal screen of one line like a pager and overall size without massive buttons that are all the rage also like a pager?
I don't need battery consumption on the screen, the music has to be tossed in through a computer so there's no need to view anything else, you know what you what you put there.
Why is it that nowadays everything is a step back on technology or plainly zero consumer choice?
