The fact that Microsoft is trying to get more devices running older versions of Windows to switch to Windows 10 by offering an upgrade for free doesn't change the fact that it's still an operating system which must be purchased. If you buy a new computer and want Windows 10, you will pay Microsoft in order to get Windows 10. If you want to upgrade your PC, which includes changing the motherboard, you're going to have to pay Microsoft for Windows 10.

i saw zero advertisements. first thing i did was remove all the pre default shit in the start menu. even then, when i had the shit, i never saw an advertisement outside of the "check out xbox one app!" and even then thats nitpicking as an advertisment.

Unity is great. Jackd is more fully-featured and lower-latency than any free Windows solution. NVIDIA drivers for desktop machines are just as good on Linux as on Windows - in fact there have been instances where certain driver features are available on Linux but not on Windows. For all the hype against it, systemd hasn't caused me any problems.
Agreed that KDE 4.x is unstable (haven't tried 5), PCManFM is unpolished, and XFCE is worthless.
