Analytics is NOT spying. It's aggregated data. It isn't or is stripping away anything personal and keeping it simple. Not your filenames but your file extensions used. Not your content being shown in your program but the name of your web browser/version. Not your inputs but the time you spent on one program. This can all be very useful information and is anonymized into one big cluster. Anything unique is most likely thrown out.

Why does /g/ get so upset of Windows 10 telemetry?
>>
>Microsoft does not care that a random Windows 10 user (let's call him George), used a particular app for 40 minutes yesterday, or that he installed an app and only used it once, or that he changed his default browser from Edge to Chrome yesterday.
>In fact, they are so not interested in George's individual activities that they anonymize the telemetry data returned by Windows 10 so that it cannot be used to personally identify him. You and I are similarly protected.

They only have your name and address if you give it to them as part of a credit card or other registration such as buying Office 365 or OneDrive. My name and address isn't on my computer at all so MS would have to go to pretty extreme lengths to find it out.

>Windows 10 telemetry
- Snowden revealed that NSA uses Windows crash reports to hack into Windows computers.
- I have *never* allowed Cortana to run. Still, the Cortana process is up and running in the background.
- I disabled the indexing of the content of .txt, .rtf. and .docx files. A few weeks later, big auto update. Indexing of the content of .txt files is back on.

The other day, I worked to get deep into a "forbidden" system folder that looked suspicious (owning subfolders one by one), and find an ~ sms.intercept.db file (!). Is "intercept" a legit word "receive(d) sms", or do they hide this files and folders because that's where they store everything the US government told them to store? (I have never allowed sms sending or receiving, still, the .db file is pretty big)

I wish there was a simple button to switch back to Seven.

There are 3 telemetry choices, which, translated in English, must sound like "basic, optimal, and complete". I ticked basic. It's reassuring, but maybe I'm stupid.
I heard that some version of Windows (I use 10 Pro) have a "none" options, I don't have it.

Yeah, but one problem is that 10 tends to "forget" privacy settings during big updates. They were busted in November, so they implemented an option to remember privacy settings despite updates.
But I still found memory lapses, like I said above, I unchecked the indexing of the content of text files, after a big update, the indexing was back on!

No one knows what's going on and probably won't until its too late. I lost track of what all those files were doing back in NT 3.51 and there would be no single person even at MS that could tell you today what is going on. The corporate model is hierarchical and compartmentalized control, gag orders. This is why fascism is dangerous.

What bothers me with the big players' recent privacy statements, is how they don't even seem to try anymore. They've adopted a "fuck you" attitude : "we collect your name, address, sell it to third parties, we track your IP, habits..."

These statements used to try at least to sound reassuring.
I'm sure they actually sound worse than they should.

What I noticed was the "we have third party partners - we share your info with them" crap in everything. Since they don't name them, you can't check those privacy statements, not that anyone would have the time or energy. The only defense is just assume everything you do on the internet, any dealings you have with a corporation is now logged and collated forever - for some future Inquisitors use. We've been here before, the dark ages, creativity dies, paranoia rises and then the lights go out for 1000 years or more.

If that data was not so important for M$ they would allow you to disable it, but they don't. Hard to believe that is only "Analytics" what they're collecting. Now back to your designated street, Rajeesh Kumar.
>>
>>52310214
No they didn't. It's specifically mentioned in the settings for Cortana, that "things you type" will be used for Cortana. ie. you're being keylogged, even if you disable it. (Go ahead, turn Cortana off, you'll see a message that informs you that the data will be collected anyway, but Cortana will no longer use it)
