Preorders have been out for a day and it's backordered 3 months.

they already have for dk2, its called virtual desktop. only thing holding back dk2 is resolution and distortion/chromatic aberration from the lenses. cv1 has better resolution and MUCH better lenses, so it might honestly be decent for a virtual desktop. Honestly people keep forgetting that dk2 only used ~80% ot the 1080p screen while cv1 uses 100% meaning theres actually a much larger increase in resolution.

this.

dk2 used proprietary lenses and a note 3 screen

cv1 uses custom lenses and custom screens per eye

not only that, many people cancel their order due to financial problems afterwards. i also expect a sooner date for my launch.

if they create the rift since november 2015, there's probably more than a couple of thousands to buy from now. considering facebook surely got the newest robotic manufacteuring plant for this task

AMD 290 min. spec.

>>52300973
I just can't see the PS4 handling the horsepower for VR.
>>
>>52300967
970 is the recommended GPU and for CPU i4590.
AMD doesn't have enough single core CPU performance to drive this thing and I'd wager that R9 390 would be the comparable recommended GPU.
>>
>>52300967
you can fir a 390 in and a 4690k in a 850$ build you fucking mook, $750 with a 380 4gb. budget better. that being said, it'll squeak by on low settings, but it wont be perfect.
>>
Palmer said a r9 290/970 is a must to play the most demanding upcoming vr titles fluid on high.. This could negate that anything slightly below it could play the game on normal with probably not to much decrease in detail. It's still a pc game no matter they say. Community will mod it to no end so that people could probably run even lower hardware on it in the future
>>
>>52301037
VR is horrible with lover frames and lag, don't recommend, vomit inducing strobe show.
>>
>>52301094
hence why you opt for the 390
>>
>>52301094
>>52301091
The recommended specs were listed to ensure the games will run at 90fps "alright." Palmer has gone on record saying you aren't going to be running all games on the highest settings at 90fps+ with the bare minimum specs.
>>
>>52301091
>Community will mod it to no end so that people could probably run even lower hardware on it in the future
Yeah, no. Perhaps Vulcan will help with parallel processing, but before that no tweak or mod will help.
It really requires a lot from your CPU, a lot.
And anything under 90fps will make you sick physically, it's not even funny.
Sure some simple shit will work, but games or anything complex, no way around the hw limits.

if I'd recommend a buddy of mine to build a vr ready pc, i'd suggest him used r9 290 and used 3570k. everything else is adjustable to preference

for about 420€ as current ebay seller value it.

add a case (even for free if suggested by craigslist or alternatives), psu 35€~, 8gb ram 1600 ddr 45€~, a used higher-end 1155 board 80€~

which makes you vr ready at 580€ in germany. of course you have to apply some brain to it to save this much

7,000 of those are pre-orders. Then you have to manufacture all the demo units they'll need to ship out to stores and vendors just to convince people to even check out the damn thing. Then you have fraud orders (they've been removing these from the start) and then you just have line holders that may not purchase and just holding a spot and will run at the first hint of danger or something more promising.

A proper business should definitely have one or more attendants looking out for the equipment and the safety of the people. Also to make sure the lenses of the HMD are clean, and that the foam (among other procedures) is replaced between each client.

>What happens when a kid slips and breaks his head while wearing your headset? SUED.
Nice hypothetical negative thinking. For starters, people wouldn't break their head because they wouldn't be standing in any of the experiences, even treadmills have tethers that prevent people from fucking up like this.

Plus, you can have people sign up a waiver if you want to play it safe.

Those aren't even hard problems, you focus too much on unlikely situations that can be prevented easily.

You're not really describing an arcade, you're describing some kind of bespoke VR salon.
>>
>>52302654
>My experience with arcades is that arcade machines get the shit beat out of them/pizza smeared on them by patrons and the operator doesn't pay attention.
>You're not really describing an arcade, you're describing some kind of bespoke VR salon.
That happens because arcades are too large, or they don't simply hire the right people to prevent it. They also serve food inside, and let very small children do whatever they want.

Bringing any kinds of foods or liquids into the premises should be prohibited and enforced by the staff in a VR arcade, and I assume most VR arcades won't have 10 year old kids running around wreaking havoc with the equipment.

You're supposed to instruct the clients on the proper usage of the equipment, if they do not comply and damage the equipment on purpose it is reasonable to expel them from the premises.

What were people expecting? It's two high end phone screens crammed into a headset with a bunch of other hardware and $2 billion dollars in R&D costs to recoup.

people were expecting what oculus told them to expect. they had planned to price it similarly to the dev kits from early on and were very clear about this. they even went as far as to say that at $600 it might as well not exist because nobody would buy it. it was only relatively recently that they decided to go in the opposite direction.
>>
>>52302741
people were expecting a cheap dk2 equilant, not a high-end vr headset

>>52302748
I assure you that most people over the age of 13 can follow a couple of simple rules like not eating/drinking shit while wearing an HMD, or smashing the equipment against the ground like cavemen, the ones who do can be safely expelled from the premises, and I doubt it will hurt income significantly.

It's particularly funny you have such a narrow mind, considering you suffer from an aversion to simple, reasonable rules, do you avoid buying your XXLL clothes in stores that don't allow you to bring your 25oz coke and burger inside?

>>
>>52302983
Given that it's vastly more complex than a monitor, that's a pretty great deal.
>>
Look at how much UHD monitors cost, hell just look at the price of any high quality monitors. Then compare it to the price of the rift. I'll probably be getting a rift once I upgrade my PC and opt for a cheaper 1080p monitor as a backup
>>

>>52303005

>>
>>52302962
>It's like running a lazer tag place, only instead giving people cheap plastic guns, you're giving them 600 dollar headsets.
The equipment will certainly degrade from usage over time, that is inevitable, I don't really know what you're trying to get at, people won't come into the business and feel offended when you tell them they can't smash the equipment against the ground, or splash their face with liquids while they're in VR.

None of the situations you're listing are likely to happen, provided there is a person looking out for the equipment and safety of the patrons, the price of the equipment is the main reason why you should have people looking out for it.

What you are describing sounds like the business is going to go bankrupt because mentally ill kids will stuff burgers into the HMDs and break them in pieces while the staff looks at it helplessly.
>>
>>52303054
that's probably $2 worth of plastic. the audio components apparently make up almost a third of the price.

>>
>>52303153
I wouldn't say I would marginalize kids that are 13-17 years old since they would actually bring in a substantial amount of profits, but if you meant 'adult-oriented' as in orderly, then you are correct.

I realize kids that are 13-17 years old are more likely to abuse the equipment than adults, however that shouldn't be a problem provided there are enough people monitoring the patrons, a single person could even watch 3 or 4 people at a time in the same room, and let's not forget that problem kids are a minority.

All in all, I think it is a very good idea that can be profitable if implemented correctly, i can picture groups of adults and kids in the mall willing to pay a fraction of the cost to drive around in a circuit against their friends, or challenge them in space sims, among other experiences.

I don't even think VR arcades for children are even possible, considering the possible health implications.

How can anyone justify calling the CV1 first gen hardware? There have been 2 dev kits over the passed 2 years which themselves would make good consumer units had the screens been higher resolution. Literally fuck off with this skepticism about a product that clearly performs as expected. Go ahead and wait for the CV2 while I've already enjoyed the CV1 for a year or 2 at that point.
