I thought they'd given up on stock coolers. Memelake CPUs don't come with one.
>>
>>52292021
What's wrong?

If you're going for an ultrapoorfag build you can save the heatsink money for a cheap SSD or something else.

I welcome better stock coolers.

>>52292049
Hopefully AMD has gone for a good OEM like Intel does (Delta or Nidec).

Easy way to shave 10 bucks off the production cost by not bundling one in.

I honestly didn't mind the stock cooler for my fx6100 as long as you didn't overclock it did the job.

So..New cooler with a new fan and copper heatpipes throughout.

Massive die shrink with Zen.
New, more efficient architecture.

They certainly could have something going for them here. I'm eager to see.

We got any actual numbers on the cooler, or even the fan?

More like 20 cents. Considering the low quality of the materials, the cheap design (Push-pin), and the considerable bulk that they are purchased in.

As a note in the video. it seems the controller that they are plugging the fans into runs them both up to full RPM. As evidenced by the deafening sound of the now old style stock cooler.

It's just straight power there's no third or fourth pin for adjusting the speed.

Depends on the CPU. The ones that come with their K series models use a small copper base. Cheaper chips come with a cheaper cooler that looks the same, but without the copper underneath.

>>
>>52292750
If you would care to argue the definition of a core. Then /v/ is really the place for you. Super helpful /g/uys there :^)

A core executes instructions. The FX-8*** series feature 4 modules, each consisting of 2 cores. One core is a typical heavy duty core as we see in every x86 processor. Whereas the other is an Integer Core, more focussed at executing, well, integers. A core is a core. The focus of it does not matter.

Never.
We've yet to see the impact that this has on thermals. One can assume it will have an impact, but random assumptions only lead to hype that has no reason being there.

Ideally speaking, yes, this will have an impact. It's larger, with a more efficient fan.
But something like this won't make even a 212 Evo redundant. Yet alone higher end air and water coolers.

It has most of the making of a quality aftermarket air cooler.

copper heat pipes, solid copper core contact point. Also they said this is for the 125W cpus so the higher voltage chips will likely use something even bigger/better

Vengeance ram wont fit. Dominator won't fit either. With hyperx sticks I get like 4-5 mm of clearance left

>>52293034
I see now the copper piece has room for 2 more heatpipes there, probably will see the beefier cooler sooner then later for their 125W+ chips.
>>
>>52293043
Which hyperx, the beast or fury?
>>
>>52293034
>still using the shitty clips

I hope the new AMD socket will have mounting points built in like LGA 2011, so you can actually screw down the heatsink.
>>
>>52293034
They probably could have cut back that copper plate a little so it only covers the CPU with no/little overhang. The amount of redundant material there is going to be costly in the long run.

I don't image them shipping out two different stock coolers simply for cost of varying production if anything. God only knows they were in no hurry to replace the piece of shit that they had been using for years. Even on higher end, higher TDP processors. The only thing they really did do was not ship a cooler with the 9570 and 9590.
>>
>>52293124
>>still using the shitty clips
For backward compatibility with older sockets it would seem.

The clips provide a tight enough contact. It's still a better mounting system than push-pins, but god knows it's not "excellent".
But that's what stock coolers are designed to be right? "Ok, but could be better" It would be awesome to see one that was really well engineered, but then, cost.

Comparing consumer sockets to 2011 isn't exactly fair. Let's be completely honest here. If you're using a 2011 socket CPU(s), you're not going to be whatever shitty cooler has been provided to you.
>>
>>52293133
The copper plate doesn't look like its that hueg, why mold it with room for 4 heatpipes if you aren't going to use 4 eventually.

AMD said this isn't for their 125w+ chips they could surely just not ship their "enthusiast" models with a stock cooler but I'm betting they're pretty proud of this and will ship a version of it with every new cpu.
>>
>>52293200
>why mold it with room for 4 heatpipes if you aren't going to use 4 eventually.
Maybe it's just an early run to ship out to reviewers?

I am sceptical that AMD would ship out various coolers. But if they do it would be a really nice touch to show that they care that much about delivering a quality product.
>>
>using stock coolers
>ever
>>
>>52293263
>AMD isn’t saying which processors will ship with the Wraith cooler later this year, though the demo model that representatives handed me was housed in a FX-8370 box. Don’t expect to see it on the beefiest FX chips, though. The Wraith cooler is rated for 125W, and AMD reps say that high-end FX chips that suck more energy than that were primarily designed for use with water-cooling systems rather than stock coolers.

AMD labeled AIO Water coolers incoming.
>>
>>52293283
On a low-mid range CPU that isn't expected to be overclocked there's probably no reason to get a huge ass cooler if the stock one is quiet enough.
>>
>>52292936
>Looks really high quality
The cooler's design looks similar to the Cooler Master Gemini II design. I'm pretty sure it will perform about the same, if it's not the same or slightly altered version of the Gemini II.
>>
>>52293322
Intel's been on that game for years now. You think AMD will go back to Asetek after the whole C&D and potential lawsuit Asetek did against them for the Fury X pump block?
>>
>>52293322
>AMD labeled AIO Water coolers incoming.
Quite possible now that you bring it to mind especially considering their current relationship with the Fury GPUs.

The fact that they are, seemingly, going to start shipping out this new cooler with the Bulldozer CPUs and their relatives is certainly something.

But I still stand by that the model the reviewers have been handed are early runs and yet refined for mass production.

If they indeed have admitted that the higher power chips were meant for water cooling, why bother beefing up an air cooling solution and adding extra heatpipes?
>>
>>52292783
Hyperthreading doesn't require any special code to take advantage of. It's just there, doing what it does. Even muh childrens' gaymes take advantage of it.
>>
>>52293445
...No, games have to be specifically written to use hyperthreading

Some games even have it as a toggleable option for that specific reason
>>
>>52293529
And some of those game fail spectacularly at utilizing HT. That's why I turn HT off at my BIOS menu when I know I won't use any thread-heavy programs other than games.

I don't think you understand how hyperthreading works. Hyperthreads are presented entirely as normal threads to the OS (you can still get the actual number of cores though). If you don't believe me, try spawning 8 pthreads on an intel quadcore and running your choice of bullshit on them.
>>
>>52293997
It doesn't make that much difference in speed at this setting. you can look up more of them if you want ,this is fairly normal speed for both cpus. I was just showing that a $120 cpu that's very old was able to to compare to a newer $375 cpu. The worst part is cooling the FX cpu you have to buy a bigger cooler for more money but it was still worth it in the end if you where on a budget.
