what speakers are you using?
what speakers would you like to have?
>>
>>52276960
Some people recommed bookshelf speakers and and a cheap amp. I've been really curious about that. How well it works? or being more specific what advantages has above buying some Logitech speakeres.
>>
>>52277015
Any bookshelf speaker of any respectable quality is going to sound better than PC speakers in plastic cabinets. Trying to make a 5.1 or even 2.1 for that kind of price cannot be of any quality at all.
>>
I'm rocking a pair of Kef iQ5 SE.
I don't see any reason to change.
>>
>>52277200
Thanks. I'll take it into consideration.
>>
Right now I'm using a pair of NHT SB2s along with a NHT SW10. They're being powered by a Rotel RX-1050.

Would like to pick up a pair of Elac Debut B6s or Wharfedale Diamond 220s.

No-nonsense design at sensible entry level price

i want to spend less than 150 dollars for a pair of speakers. only for listening no producing. i dont have a receiver
what do?
>>
I currently own a pair of Boston Acoustics T-1000, don't really have any other speaker models in mid.

If anything, the first thing that is getting upgraded is my receiver which is a Yamaha r-s201. This is probably years down the line, though.
>>
>>52277540
Grab a pair of jbl lsr 305s senpai. They're about $150 each and great for near field listening.
>>
what do you guys think are the most important design considerations when it comes to speakers?
something more specific than just "low distortion" or whatever. like dispersion characteristics, efficiency, bandwidth, subjective coloration and so on
>>
>>52277592
Are they powered? Or do I need a receiver. I want to just use then plugged into my computer
>>
KRK Rokit 5s
Love them, surprisingly great for jazz
Not sure what speaker i would want though since there are way too many fucking speakers and everyone seems to have a completely different opinion on what speakers to buy
>>
>>52277674
They're active speakers, so you don't need an amp or anything. Just use TRS to 3.5mm or XLR to 3.5 mm to plug them into your computer.
>>
>>52277674
>>52277695
Oh, I guess the downside is that without an attenuator or something, you'd have to control volume through software (or get up and adjust the amps on the back of the speakers, but who does that?).

They sound breddy gud, but I'm not an audiophile.

I should probably actually move them CLOSER to the wall to avoid bass cancellation tho - i live in a rented nyc apartment, so I cant do too much by way of treatments

Cerwin Vega says they are 500w max but i use the crown xti on the woofers. which is arround 350w RMS for each 15" and that seems to be "enough" 700w per speaker. i use the alto max 2.2 for the mid/high and they play decent. they are nothing compared to my old Klipsch RF 82mk2. but they play nice, and really loud

I have a 2.1 klipsch pro media set that I bought for like 130 usd 4 years ago or so. They sound good to me, definitely the best PC speakers I've owned, but then again I've always had really shitty ones in the past. I dig em.

Is Sherwood a good brand?
I don't want to buy a used receiver, but I don't want to spend a lot of money either so I'm looking into something like this.
I've had shit luck with mini amps like the LP 2020A and the Dayton Audio DTA 1, they both broke on me so I'm hoping a receiver will have better build quality.

This is the one I have in mind.

http://www.amazon.com/Sherwood-RX4208-Stereo-Receiver-Black/dp/B00OZ5851M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1452130522&sr=8-3&keywords=sherwood+receiver
>>
>>52280573
Why are you against buying something used?
>>
I'm literally so retarded that I don't understand the purpose of having a large receiver to drive 2 stereo speakers and possibly a sub.

For the love of god somebody help me.
>>
>>52280965
There's not much point in a receiver unless you're doing a home theater setup imo.
>>
>>52276960
Got a pair of these babies.
They're nice, I'm quite satisfied with them. Don't really have an "endgame" pair of speakers or anything, these sound perfectly fine for now.

I'm using some klipsch bookshelf speakers but I would rather have their tower speakers when I move into the basement later this year. What I really want is a pair of classic floorstanding stereo speakers.
>>
>>52281069
What kind of bizarre speaker design is that?
>>
>>52281438
shhh it's japanese dont ask questions
>>
>>52280965
Sounds good man.

The speakers are most important. These days there are plenty of good small amps and you don't really need a large receiver.
>>
>>52280688
I am mostly concerned about the possibility of getting something that is broken, or close to breaking and having absolutely no way of getting it replaced, like I would with something that still has a warranty.

Would something like this be good for movies and games?

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MX-J630-Channel-Wired-System/dp/B00UCXJD26/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I'm already satisfied with the speakers and headphones I use on my PC for music, I just want something to boost the sound on my TV, something not too expensive.
>>
>>52283038
God this thing looks so tacky. If you just want loud sound for your TV, you're probably better off going to a thrift store and looking for large speakers.
>>
>>52283038
That looks awfully gaymurr.
Expect it to be shit.

>>
>>52283038

>>
>>52283056
kek yeah... the design is pretty terrible, can't argue against that.
I considered the thrift store idea but then I would need something to power the speakers, which sort of takes me back to square one.

>>52283063
It does huh
Samsung usually makes good products though, at least I've never had problems with their cell phones.

>>
>>52283091
If you want decent sound for not too much money, Scythe Kro Craft speakers + a cheap(ish) amp is the way to go.
Just make sure you get something that can handle at least 25W per channel, as the Scythe speakers aren't exactly the most efficient.

Isn't that the shitty chinese speakers "made by" a Norwegian company, where the owner fucked over another company or something. He is in prison for fraud or something now.
