I don't want my house to catch fire because I play videos while I browse another website.

Because it's too mainstream. I couldn't see myself liking OS X more than *BSD, GNU/Linux, or even Windows. You can't spec them up to beastly hardware, and the aesthetic is getting old.
>>

I need more than 800MHz of processing power.

>>
I could make my desktop a supercomputer for the cost of one
or get 3 T420's with nvidia gpu's and 9 cells
>>
>>52257668
Because I enjoy light gaming. Because I want to be able to use my mouse without attaching a dongle to a dongle. Because I don't particularly like OS X. Because if I'm going to spend loads of money on a novelty there are better options for my money, like designer furniture or the new OLED laptop from lenovo.

If they fix these things I might look into a Macbook.
I might be able to deal with a shitty keyboard, but I really fucking hate using a touchpad. I hate having to move my hands away from my keyboard.
>b-b-but anon Apple's touchpads are good !
Doesn't make touchpads any less uncomfortable to use. I've used Macbooks in the past, like when I went to visit my parents for 3 weeks and I forgot to bring the charger for my Thinkpad like a dumb fuck, so I borrowed my mom's Macbook during that time. I hated it because of the lack of trackpoint. It's just not comfortable to use unless the thing is on a desk.

I don't even care about the brand. It just so happens that Lenovo makes the only laptops with a good trackpoint.
So until some other brand steps up their trackpoint game, I'm sticking with Thinkpads.

Sounds like you've never used one.
>>
>>52261218
It also sounds like you've never even given a touchpad a chance.
>>
>>52261250
Oh but I have.
I hated touchpads before I found out about trackpoints, and I still hate them to this day.
>>
>>52261277
Why? Because you have to move your hand a bit and that's hard for you?
>>
>>52261327
Because a laptop needs to be >>portable<<.
I need to be able to comfortably use my laptop on my lap in the train, on the bus, in a car, or wherever the fuck I might decide to use my laptop.
Even in a couch.

In order to use a touchpad in any of these places, with the laptop placed on your lap, you have to move your arm into an awkward position too close to your body, whereas with a trackpoint you get to keep your hands resting on the keyboard in a natural position.

Touchpads are uncomfortable to use when your laptop isn't sitting on a desk, and no amount of shitty gestures or glass is going to change that.
>>
>>52261412
You literally have to move your hand maybe 3-4 inches, your wrist moves a little bit but otherwise your arm stays in the same position. How is that any less "portable"? What positions are you using your laptop in?
>>
I use to have a Macbook in 2011. After 2 years or so I got a T60 and never went back, primarily because of how locked down the Macbook's were (and still are) and to boot just overall bad ergonomics. Yes the trackpad is nice, but I greatly prefer the trackpoint. The trackpoint is more natural to use and I don't have to move my hands to type.

One other small gripe that annoyed the shit out of me was the Macbooks had a hard edge at where you're wrists sit, felt like the edge was slitting them. The T60 and just about any other laptops slope them or round them. Basic things like that and user serviceable parts make more sense to me.
>>
>>52261491
>You literally have to move your hand maybe 3-4 inches, your wrist moves a little bit but otherwise your arm stays in the same position
But that's wrong. You can't just move your wrist to go from keyboard to touchpad, you have to move your entire arm if you don't want to end up with your hand in an even more uncomfortable position than necessary.
It's less portable because it's less usable in a non-desk scenario. Louis Rossmann talks a bit about it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFWJP5yCujw

>What positions are you using your laptop in?
Most of the time (the 2 hours I spend on my daily commute to and from work), I sit normally with it on my lap, in a train where there generally isn't a whole lot of room to move.
>>
>>52261701
>But that's wrong. You can't just move your wrist to go from keyboard to touchpad, you have to move your entire arm if you don't want to end up with your hand in an even more uncomfortable position than necessary.
Really starting to think you're fat.
>It's less portable because it's less usable in a non-desk scenario.
Like what? Give me some examples
>that video
Doesn't mention a single instance where a trackpoint would be better, just his personal preference.
>>
But I already have a UNIX-like operating system installed on my laptop?
>>
>>52261765
It seems you ran out of proper arguments. You lost to him. Go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
>>
>>52261869
How? You've refused to give any examples and it's obvious that your preference from trackpoints comes from the fact that you're most used to them and refuse to try a touchpad because the ones you have used have been terrible.
>>
>>52261765
>Really starting to think you're fat.
I weigh 45kg.
>Doesn't mention a single instance where a trackpoint would be better, just his personal preference.
He mentions that the trackpoint makes his life easier because he has to move his hand less. The trackpoint vs touchpad part of that video is short, but it's there. if I recall correctly around one third-ish to halfway into it.
>Like what? Give me some examples
Because the examples I've already given you aren't enough ?
A touchpad-only laptop is less portable because it's less comfortable to use ( == less usable) in cramped spaces where you might decide to use a laptop. For instance, thanks to the trackpoint, my 15.6" T520 doesn't feel clumsy and unwieldy when I use it in the train.

>>52261869 isn't me btw
>>
>>52261765
>Really starting to think you're fat.
Every single time somebody complains about ergonomics on 4chan, they get called fat.
>>
I own a non-retina Macbook Pro 15 inch from 2011 for audio editing, I only this computer for 3 reasons, Logic X Pro, Final Cut Pro and Xcode for app development. It was really quite inexpensive I paid like 500$ for mine.
>>
>>52257668
For the moment my 09 MBP is still holding up well for work. When it doesn't anymore I think I'm more inclined to get a Chromebook Pixel, or maybe just one of the cheaper Chromebooks.

That's probably still a ways off in the future.
