Just finished a new build for a video editing PC. Did I fuck up?
Also Speccy thread

Unused RAM is wasted RAM
How much did you spend on this?

>>52254072
Also why a GTX 750ti and not a 980Ti?
Why not a quadro?
Why 32gb of ram?
>>52254110
Adobe Premiere uses absolutely every bit of RAM it can get it's hands on when I edit 4k footage. I plan on upgrading to 64GB of ram when DDR4 prices come down.
Think I spent around... $1600?
>>52254137
I ran out of money so the 750ti is temporary. Like I said, need ram for video editing.
mine

your cpu is too cold. it will slow down at that temperature because of information entropy. i recommend placing a hot towel at the bottom of your case.
>>52254161
>seagate
>>52254217
>your cpu is too cold. it will slow down at that temperature because of information entropy. i recommend placing a hot towel at the bottom of your case.
this
>>52254217
>>52254272
I'm peeing on it right now, do you think that will help?
>>52254220
One is a constellation es.3 while the other is a barracuda I use it as a trash drive.
>>52254305
of course. the urine is an antibacterial so no virus
>>52254161
>>52254180
Why are you guys using the Education version of Win 10?
>>52254390
its full enterprise but with a "education volume licensing". it allows for the botnet to be disabled officially. simply by gpedit.
i got mine for free from my microsoft elms account provided by my college.
>tfw this ram was $100
>>52254512
>all those monitors
I wanna see your battlestation now
>>52254779
Is that a computer or a potato?
>>52254709
>>52254871
It's enough for lurking on 4chan
I have a desktop for everything else
>>52254072
>tfw put this together for around $800
Feels good, man. It's a shame there's only one lan a month where I live.
>>52254912
>that monitor
Here's my first build
>>52254512
>all those 1600x1200 monitors
Bretty gud
>>52254967
>intel GPU not disabled
I seriously hope you have plugged your display in the GPU
>>52254961
It's a TV, bro. Fucking sucks since it's so old that, while I can do 1080p through HDMI, I can't turn overscan off. And fuck doing a funky custom res, I'll just tolerate this low one. Besides, I don't take my own monitor to lans, they have old-ass 1600x900 ones available.
>>52255005
No, its in the 970. I have run a old monitor off the integrated before
>>52254984
>getting such a pos
>>52254992
got them from a recycler for $25 each, I have 3 but I don't have enough space to put them all up
VESA arms be expensive
>>52254161
>SLI 970
>>52255036
better than apple plus it was free
>>52255009
You run a 970 and 1600x900?
overkill? genuine q, not sarcasm.
>>52255049
Sound like a good deal to me
The only thing we have to worry about is that the CCFL backlight will die in a few years
>>52255084
absolute overkill. I wouldn't have even purchased a >3.5 card had I not gotten such a good deal on it during Black Friday. At least I'll be somewhat futureproofed (kek).
Sad part is, we mostly play Quake 3 Arena and UT2k4 at the lans.
>>52255187
Ah, hm. Personally I have only 1 1080pmonitor but I'm not sure if a 970 SC can cope with 1440p on High/Ultra for RS6/ArmA 3/BF4
>>52255182
>not getting a good GPU
>>52255231
I haven't yet seen >3.5 shit the bed yet (obviously), but I'm guessing that 1440p is beyond the 970's capabilities. You could probably get away with 2560x1080 ultrawide if you're wanting an upgrade, but I wouldn't push it much beyond that.
>>52254912
>>52254180
>>52254072
How do you guys get the windows colored? Mine is all white with the border's color the same as that of the task bar.
>>52255280
- upgrade to latest build
- enable it under "personalize" in the settings
>>52255266
mebbe. Advice noted :)
>>52255300
The only update I'm getting is the one for the Malicious Software Removal tool.
I'm on Windows 10 Enterprise.
Waitin on Polaris now.
>>52255463
Check with winver what build you have
>>52255527
Pretty nice, I would build the same.
>>52255788
Thanks. The Fury X and Monitor are still fairly recent upgrades. Pretty happy with what I have currently.
The "Intel RAID 0 Volume" is 2 120GB Patriot Blast SSD. I get just over 1GB/s read and write.
>>52254169
If you wait till pascal comes out you could get a couple of used 980s and run an SLI rig
>>52254390
It's rebranded Enterprise but available on DreamSpark
>>52258610
I can't imagine a 280/2500K handles 4k 60fps too well.
>>52258656
>assuming he plays games
>assuming he plays demanding games even if he did play games
>>52258680
Pretty unbalanced for editing and overkill for cruising the web, so yeah I assumed he plays games.
>>52254072
Would you consider getting a quadro/firepro?
>$350 on cpu
>$160 on ram
>$100 gpu
Consider suicide OP
>>52255636
It's like Build 10240 and Windows Update still hasn't brought up anything new for me.
Do you know if Windows Server 2012 is any good? I'm considering installing the latest version on my PC because muh colored title bars. :^)
>>52258741
>video editing
>needing gpu as much as ram and cpu
>>52258656
I mostly play casual games, just finished life is strange, worked absolutely fine at 50-60FPS
If I'd ever plan to play something more demanding I have no problem dropping the res to 1080p or 1440p.
It's a 7970 btw
>>52258656
>>52260319
Also it's kind of a weird build. It started as a 99% gaming build back 5 years ago when the 2500K was hot shit.
It had a 6950 which died after 6 months then a 7870 which died after 8 months then a 7970 (upgrade process only cost me ~$100 because I got the money back from the retailers since the cards I was RMAing were no longer produced ... Go figure...)
The 7970 was a beast for my 1200p screen at the time, but I stopped playing games about 2 years ago as I started uni.
A few months ago I got the 24" 4K screen because it's easier for my eyes when the code is much sharper.
Although I do admit, playing LiS at 4K was pretty cool, I didn't expect the card to handle it that well.
But since I almost don't play anything these days the 2500K and the 7970 will stay until they die.
I need to upgrade RAM though, I'm constantly running out when running Dev VMs
speccy does not work on linux
>>52260604
what did you use to get that?
for future reference
>>52254878
fucking lol
some of you guys have space heaters.
>>52254072
All that ducking ram and no optical drive. Really?
>>52254149
>>52254072
Wow you fucked up, big time.
You got ripped off for one, and two you need a better GPU. You could offload videos to your GPU's vram and scrub through it much faster.
And
>edit 4k video on a 1080p monitor
Kill self. Not that it matters that much, it just seems kind of funny.
And 32gb of ram is more than enough
7 hours of encoding.
1 day, 14 hours to go.
>Windows 7 Ready!
Light video editing, some After Effects, lots of Illustrator and Indesign, lots of gayman.
She's been good to me.
>>52263258
>2gb 980 Ti
the fuck????
Need to get an SSD.
>>52254149
>>52262033
Not sure if he meant premiere cs or premiere elements but elements can't use the gpu
>only 4k monitor here is being powered by a 7970
lmao
>>52263258
that ultrawide though, mirin
battlestation pic?
>mfw mostly a decent amount of gaming and a lot of web dev shit, photoshop/illustrator and a lot of multitasking
I need to get a new GPU sometime in the near future and need to get a proper IPS monitor, but as far as being a student it's fine.
>>52263331
idk why it says that, might need to update speccy. the 980ti is fully functional tho.
>>52263391
here
>All these hypocrites using Windows 10
Not bad render times. I'm watching youtube and shitposting on 4chan while doing it too.
Can't wait until pascal.
>>52263613
>he thinks the 24/7 shitposters are /g/
just upgraded from an FX 8150. Life is good.
>>52261333
Unless your room is 15c(59f) or colder, i can guarentee you that your temps are not reading properly. It's impossible for a cpu to run cooler than the ambient temperature of the air it uses to cool itself, even with watercooling. Unless you have liquid nitrogen of course. If so, god speed.
>>52258656
I don't see why a 2500K should have problems with 4K games. The 280X otoh, seems to be more of a bottleneck.
>>52262033
The 750 ti is literally a disposable card. In a few months when the new wave of video cards come out I'll toss out the 750 and get a new card. In the mean time the editing I do does not utilize my GPU really anyway.
>>52255527
What voltage is your 4690K configured to?
I have the same OC'd to 4.2ghz but I'm a bit weary of going any higher
>>52254072
>Work station
>Consumer CPU
>Video work
>No workstation gpu with better compatibility with using gpu encoding
>No NAS in some form of redundant RAID
>No ECC RAM
>No 10bit color calibrated monitor for color grading
Oh shit anon what the fuck were you thinking you are retarded
>>>/v/
Faster than anything else on this planet. GPU is 5770
>>52267137
i had that GPU, it was pretty good back in the day

anybody used m2 ssd? worth it or meme?
