Nope, and won't be near as smooth. Pic related, giving Ubuntu a whirl for a whole month to see how much I can deal with it. It's ok so far, I need to find a better file browser for sure. I also can't seem to get my other display working with these nvidia drivers.
>>
>>52253356
why the hell are you using Unity? Are you retarded?
>>

>Using meme operating systems

Why the fuck haven't you guys gone back to Windows XP yet?
>>
>>52253381
I'll probably slap Cinnamon or Mate on here, but my annoyances so far aren't with Unity. I'm finding many programs to just be shit compared to their defaults even on Windows or OS X.
>>
>>52253356
>installs shitty icon pack
>wonders why things look like shit

>>52253381
As somebody who has used all major DEs and WMs quite extensively, Unity is workable and ultimately needs to exist if we want Average Joe to be able to use Linux.

To each their own, but fuck off with this"FUCK UNITY LOL" meme.
>>
>>52253428
like what? I'm genuinely curious
also, mate is trash too. Haven't used Cinammon in forever so I can't comment
Gnome 3 is the best. It even has classic mode that is literally everything mate is trying to be but better.
>>
>>52253434
Every icon pack I fuck with looks like shit desudesu senpaifam

>>52253486
I need to get a different file browser for sure, the screenshot utility is garbage, rythmbox is featureless and most linux music players look like ass, etc

Nope. Freetards have absolutely no taste in aesthetics. Even KDE Plasma, their best looking DE, is an amateur's idea of flat design.

Is there a way that I can Hackintosh my PC WITHOUT A MAC?
I've been wanting to do it for a while now.

>>52253584
you have no idea what you're talking about. Ubuntu isn't a DE. Unity is. Unity has a shit filebrowser and shit default programs
Gnome 3 and XFCE have better file browsers and terminals.
it's funny though that you're comparing it to OSX which has the worst file browser of all time
>>
>>52253674
I know what the fuck I'm talking about. Ubuntu's default file browser back in 2007-2008 was shit as well, Nautilus i think that was bundled with Gnome 2.0. Doesn't matter, I can install whatever file browser I want, even with Unity. I just need to bother to take a look into what is out there anymore, as it's been 5+ years since I used linux enough of the time to care.

"Files" under Unity, by default, is far worse than Finder. That indeed is an impressive feat, no?
>>

but nonetheless it's one of the worse DE's out there
>>
If i was to switch to MATE right now, does this guide look like what I need to do? It's been awhile since I did something like this.

Do I just restart the computer afterwards, or log-out then select Mate as my login session?

Linux DEs will replicate this look in 4 years, long after it's gone out of style.
>>
>>52253241
That's pretty much what Unity looks like if you hide its taskbar and add a third-party dock. So, yeah, Linux pretty much already looks like that.
>>
>>52255064
I use nano, somebody told me that sublime was superior, I don't see the appeal
>>
>>52253807
The thing about themes like this is that they look great, as long as the applications you use are modern GTK apps. But the world of GUI frameworks is completely up in the air on Linux and you usually end up with a really disjointed set of applications that don't conform to any one style.

I've been using Ubuntu 14.04 for a while now, and it looks like its gnome version is too old for Arc, and I'm not sure if upgrading Gnome/gtk by itself is going to break stuff, and I feel like upgrading the whole system for the theme is too much of a hassle.

What do.
