Reminder
>8 years without a backup and counting
i dun give a FUCK
my computer backs up automatically.
>tfw poor and no hdd for backup only
Thanks op, you're a cool dude.
It hasn't been a while OP. Just last night i backed up my sperm in your mom's pussy.
>tfw only have vidya on drive, important shit is on flash drives and mail
>200mbps internet connection so I can download everything in 10 hours in case my drives die
>>52249334
that's rude
>there are people that genuinely think you can sort out a faulty hard drive by freezing it
Better get those backups in order.

I use a 1 TB SSD so it's unlikely to fail (no moving parts). You pay more for reliability so I'd never buy one of those dinosaur 80s mechanical hard drives.
and generally, once a week
My HDD died last night. It can happen when you least expect it.
maybe every 2 or 3 months
not working on big project so not matter
What the fuck should I backup? Seriously what is this meme?
Should I backup all my - oh so valuable - anime and meme pictures and the software that I could download and install again in a few minutes if I lost my data. If I have any important projects I copy them on a USB flash drive anyway to work with them on my laptop later (a couple of gigabytes at most depending on what I'm working on).
seriously. Why do people need backups? Do yall niggers have a data hoarding problem? I'm actually curious.

ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>>52249224
My computer backed itself up 50 minutes ago and has scheduled another one for 10 minutes from now.

That's exactly what you want to backup. It doesn't matter if your backup is 500gb or 50mb, as long as you keep copies of your important shit.
It's not about keeping a copy of your entire computer, it's about avoiding situations where you find yourself losing data that will cost you time and/or money.
>>52250153
lol
>>52249334
Hey, I did that too
>>52249224

>>52249224
> Reminder.
Backup is worse if it's needs to reminder
> anon@anon ~ $ sudo crontab -l
> 0 0 * * * time rsync -a --delete / backup:/media/sdb1/anon/
>>52250481
>turn laptop off
>miss a backup time
>turn laptop back on
I'm unfamiliar with cron commands though so does this account for things like this?
NO
#YOLO
>>52251128
Not in his example, but this can be added.
>>52251128
systemd timers depreciated cron and have this function.
I'm having problems getting clonezilla to work with making an image from an SSD. It keeps giving the "not shut down properly in windows" error even though I did so repeatedly. Is there a fix for this or is it just because SSDs are memes?

In this case you can use anacron.
>>52249268
Same desu senpai. There's no real point, all I really have to lose is my image folder. Everything else is trivial, just reinstall programs
Nope. I've backed up everything with rsync like three hours ago. So fuck you
>>52249316
konata hot af
>everything important is saved in encrypted form across different cloud storage platforms
>everything else is just shit I could redownload with varying degrees of difficulty
maybe someday I'll get a tape drive
>>52249224
no it hasnt
>>52249224
My last automatic backup was less than 30 mins ago.
Thanks, Time Machine.

Single point of failure?
I love it!
>>52256277
