Mr. Dipshit there must be an American liberal. They treat racism the same way the Emperor's Most Holy Inquisition treats Chaos corruption - anything it touches must be destroyed.

>>52249002
Yes, it's peculiar. Looking at the Slackware release timeline you'll see that up until 2013 there was at least one release every year. Now it will be three years without one. I hope the delays aren't related to Patrick hesitating to either adopt systemd or throw in the towel in what has quasi become a systemd-centric post-Linux world.
>>
>>52249367
Nah, look at current.
There's all this software created to avoid systemd like eudev, ConsoleKit2, etc.

Neither do I see Slackware users going around all day like "hurr install $MYDISTRO" as Arch or Gentoo users do (as for the latter it's probably more random memers than actual Gentoo users, but still)"

That's a good thing, hopefully it stays that way.

Btw here's a poll concerning these matters:

that's a trick question. no linux user is skilled and humble. they only have one of these attributes.
>>

>is YAST still a pile of steaming shit?
Yap.
Tried using it after the official release of leap. The amount of time I wasted trying to get my printer (which worked in every fucking os/distro) to work was mind boggling. I trashed it after 2 days. I think such tool would be only useful for a business.

If you're just a normal desktop Linux fag who wants to post on /g/ and watch anime, YaST is useless. However it's amazing if you're a power user but abhor having to manually write out your configs.

Service management? There's a module for that
Users and groups? There's a module for that
Samba? There's a module for that
Complete configuration for Sendmail/Postfix/Apache/nginx servers? Yes.
Automating BTRFS snapshots? Yup
A partition manager that lets you control everything from simple partitions to large scale LVM and btrfs clusters? That too

That's why I'd say opensuse is the best distro for OP's criteria, because its definitely for power users but for some reason gets treated as a 'beginner distro' because it doesn't intentionally make everything difficult.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Not too hard to install, not too easy to install.

You can set it up exactly to how you desire..
