Don't get a thinkpad, they are le memes. GEt a used Latitude. They have the best Linux compatibility and are usually cheaper with better specs. Also much better build quality and keyboards than Thinkpads. I got mine as a refurbished with Windows 7 Pro for $100
>>
>>52241084
The Latitudes are really nice, and pretty cheap for their price.

What you have to understand is each one is different and made for a different reason. If you just want a laptop to use for normal activities (Light gaming, shitposting on /g/, watching videos, listening to music), then any of those should be good.

The Latitudes and Thinkpads are business-oriented, they can do everything fine, but the XPS and Macbook Pro, is better if you're actually buying into the meme of "gaming on a laptop".

Personally, for the price and all things considered, a Thinkpad isn't a bad buy. I bought an x220 for $200 in June, then upgraded the display for $50. I mean, for $250, it's a really nice little laptop. If you want something newer and better, I'd go with a Latitude.

I'd only buy an XPS/Macbook Pro if you're actually going to be using it as your main machine or constantly are on the move. No laptop is worth over $1000
>>
>>52241084
Maki would probably get a Thinkpad.

Bought used T420 for $75 and it's been fantastic. Threw 16Gb of RAM and a 256Gb SSD drive in and boots faster than new laptops. Swapped out the ODD for a 1TB HDD as I don't see the purpose in having an ODD anymore. Also threw a USB3 hub in the ExpressPort slot bringing my USB count to 6.

You should play Eiyuu Senki instead.

>>52241084
Always happy to shill for Dell when it comes to Latitudes. Like everyone else says, old ones are dirt cheap and easy to mess around with. Plus they can get some serious shit done. Even a dime-a-dozen D630 can run Win7. Personally still a fan of the E6500/E6400. Comfy as fuck. My E4200 is my favorite laptop keyboard, but it's a little lacking in power since it's almost literally a featherweight. If you can pick up, say, an E6530, you'd still be set for a while. My work computer is an E7440 and that thing can work its ass off.
>>
>>52242186
Have you considered the Ivy Bridge flash?
>>
>>52242378
No, does that let me upgrade the Sandy Bridge to a Ivy Bridge chip?
Wouldn't the chipset not be compatible?
I'd be worried about it bricking the board and would be too much of a pussy to try it.
>>
OP, do NOT use Maki as an "eyecatch" for your inane consumerist requests. This is your final warning.

Ok
>>

Okay, with that logic what's the point of even buying laptops?

Just use your smartphone or buy a tablet.

It doesn't seem to be fully baked yet, but for me it's a pleasant future upgrade I'd consider if my consumer Samsung notebook ever truly dies.

My German is not even decent.
I did read into it a bit but it seems that I'd lose USB3 support due to the Ivy Bridge chipset supporting USB3 from factory.
I'm not hurting for speed with the 2520m that it came with. I've run six VMs and had Chrome, Firefox, and Steam open while playing Besiege and haven't had any issue with the machine.

Toshiba Satellite are really good for gaming if you are on a budget and are near indestructible I dropped my old one a dozen times and it still ran smooth as fuck and that was about 7 years ago playing wow but I'm one now and it's great I upped the ram to 8gb (6available because I use Windows xp look) and I play warframe on very high graphics with no tearing and it originally was about 750 but I got it used free as a gift buy I've seen it online for about 250 it's a Toshiba Satellite L775D-7132

Tl: ; dr
Toshiba Satellite any model close to L775D-7132 you can find it on Amazon or at lots of pawn shops
>>
>>52241084
I got a Dell Latitude 6230 for $100 with no ram
>>
>>52242664
That's cool to hear. I did like the graphics boost that Ivy got, but it's not like I've had a Sandy before.

XPS are the current "performance" laptops with 8/10 aesthetics, Macs are a meme, chinkpads are for autistic neckbeards who want to rice, Latitudes are better thinkpads than Thinkpad.

Stupid Maki posters

Chinkpad, but I'd get an rMBP or a XPS over it if you aren't short on money.

I got a T420 with an i7, dedicated card, 9 cell battery and good display for $260.

I spent $150 more to make it have 16 GB of RAM and an SSD.

The thing is fucking ridiculous for $410

Shit, OP... I mean I'm probably going to blow a bunch of money on an XPS 15, but none of those are 'bang for your buck' in the slightest.
