Aim for CM13 buddy, also nice phone.

Galaxy S3 running CM12 Nightly+ extended battery.

A few months ago, back when there were no stable lollipop ROMS and no way to revert to 4.2 (thanks KNOX), I got a new 'budget' smartphone. Hated it. When CM12 came out and confirmed working on d2tmo, I switched right back to the S3.

It's just as fast as new phones, 3 day battery life; literally zero reason to give this up.

Unfortunately it seems that might happen sooner rather than later.

Decided to ditch my LG G4 for a used, $150 Galaxy S5. It's a bit beat up (not on the screen though) looking, but it's functional. Gonna install CM13 on this thing and use it until at least mid-2017 because I hate all the phones that came out in 2015. They're all compromises; one phone will do Thing X very well, but at the cost of Thing Y. There's no reason we shouldn't have a perfect phone in fucking 2015.

Come to think of it, the phone I was happiest with was a Note 4 with CM12, I just sold it early last year because the big screen bothered me. I should have done this to begin with.
>>
Bought an LG G4 in november at 60%of the launch price.
Definitely using it until it breaks apart. Marshmallow is coming soon. i expect Android N or may be even O to come for this phone. after that, i'll switch to CM.

Used my last phone (sony ericsson k790i) for 5 years. the battery swelled up and every one had moved onto smartphones so I decided to buy an xperia u.

xperia u was the worst buy of my life. never buying sony again. never buying mid-range again.

shitposting atm from a lenovo g550 laptop i bought in 2009. replaced motherboard last year, and now i think it's good till 2020 (at least for shitposting and watching torrented movies.)

So, yeah, i like to use things until after they are long dead.

Yeah I'm quite partial to my GS3 as well. The thing is still more than fast enough given what I need it for, the camera's decent, the resolution is good, LTE because North Murrica, and most importantly, it can take Micro SD cards up to 64 GB in size. I find it amazing that, 4 years after the S3, there are basically no "flagship" phones that can hold my rather modest music library.
>>
>>52242856
yeah well, you can't have everything, man.
UI i can deal with. I'm a man, so looks don't really bother me that much anyway. It's a phone, not a woman.
back buttons i have grown accustomed to.
It's just that i want marshmallow already but it's not coming.
I'm afraid of putting on CM and lose any DRM shit. What if i can't get DRM back?
Anyway, imho, G4 was the best android phone of 2015. I love it.

very excited to see G5 when it comes out.

Same. Currently really disappointed with battery life on custom 5.1 compared to stock. I've heard 6.0 is much better in that regard, but there are a few things I'm waiting to get fixed before I try it.

I also have a mountain of spare G2 parts so if anything breaks I can keep it going for a long time.

Unless it's a Galaxy K Zoom (so a camera with Android), or a phone with a big ass camera (Lumia 41mpx), picture quality will be shit.
The UltraPixel was the only notable and good innovation of the last few generations, and even that got killed.

yeah apparently they fucked up, said they would have the X20 originally, then said the X10, and now are releasing 3 different versions of the P9000 with the highest being called "Edge" for its 2.5D curved glass. and apparently the Edge will get the X20 for a premium price point. but at the moment they've only disclosed the specs of the P9000 and Lite on their website (both with P10), and the Edge has been shown vaguely in some youtube videos as a proof of hardware.

overall the company is weird and doesn't communicate very well but they do release phones for American bands which I haven't seen much of from china. they should release these faster than they did the Vowney which was delayed since like September, then promised in October and never actually shipped until the end of December to begin filling orders. and now they have the Vowney 2K which a rep said will also be available in American band frequencies. they did mention the American version of the P9000 could be a 3 month delay after initial launch which they say is the end of January. but the hardware is already capable of running on different bands they just need to activate and pay whatever licensing fees for it.

I've had all the Galaxy S phones from S1 up to S6.

S1 and S2 are currently being used by my kids.
S4 Im using on my Phantom 3 controller.
S3 is on my 3d printer.
I gave my S6 to my wife, and I currently use the S5.

I love the water resistance on it, the great battery life and speed after heavy tweaking.
Perfect screen size for me, and a great all round powerhouse.

Picked it up for 70€, seller bricked it by flashing some chinese rom.
Paid 15€ for someone to Jtag it, added a glass screen protector and a slim spigen case.

Also have a zero lemon for those days Ill be out in the field with heavy data use.

Have tested Iphone 5 and 6, Lg, Zen, Xperia, but didnt find any reason to swap.

Quite happy.

I really could not care less about higher specs when the OS is already completely lag free on the Nexus 5, the screen is still gorgeous, and the latest OS is still supported out the box.

I can see myself using the Nexus 5 for another 2 years at least.

I use Omega Rom from XDA.

Before flashing, I edit the zip and manually remove everything I dont need, like google services, samsung apps and services, language files that aren't english, etc
I also add apps I do need (xprivacy, afwall+, adblock, tasker, etc)

Original rom file is 1.8GB

After manually debloating, it is 580MB.

Not saying it's completely debloated, but it is debloated enough to be daily driver stable

I don't fully understand why people pay so much for modern flagship phones when for $250 you can get a phone that has a good screen, a good battery life and runs smoothly aside from demanding games like GTA San Andreas but who buys a phone to play games? The camera is the only reason to get a flagship imo as the cameras in budget phones tend to be bad to mediocre.

You will have to pry this phone from my cold dead hands anon.
>>
>>52248309
Yeah, surprisingly they will natively support the S3 after skipping the entire CM12.
>>
Moto X 2013. Works like a charm, after the hell of a beating it has took to this day.

Don't give a crap about Marshmallow either, though YouTube on the Android 5.1 works like crap. I might patch that up with CM sooner or later.

Having fun with all your data being transmitted to Samsung and battery drains by Knox which uses 25% of ram in standby?

Note 3. I've dropped it at least 30 times, and its working no problem.

I have a 5c also. Pretty good phone for the size. I am thinking of getting a Nexus 5X though (for Android dev).

Why the fuck? The whole selling point of Nexus devices is their OS.

I love this phone so much. Had it for over 2 years now.
>>
LG G4 and in love haha
>>
I have an SGS2, not really compelled to upgrade. The battery is giving out again even though I bought it just a couple of months ago. Seems like all replacement batteries you can buy are garbage.

I hardly ever use it though so it's not really a big deal.
>>
>>52249984
me too!
>>
>>52245412
Went do you think I'm downgrading? I spent all of 2015 looking for a perfect phone only to realize it doesn't exist. Also I bought and then sold all of those second hand.

That's the only time to change phones fool

i had one, build quality on this phone sux.

Lenovo a316i with all the bloat & spyware removed

Never gonna replace this one

5S was a good one.

Hopefully I'll love my g4 till 2018. Not doing anything to it now.

Note 3 with CM13.

You might want to look at the Temasek unofficial CM13.

I probably wouldn't care about flagship phoned that much if it weren't for the fact that no one tries that hard on the camera hardware and software unless it is a flagship phone.

All the mid-range phones and China phones have sub-par cameras. If it's not at least as good as a Note 4 or S6 then it's like I have absolutely no interest regardless of how cheap it is for the rest of the specs.

A big part of the reason for that is that the people who I buy phones for (mom, sister, girlfriend) all like taking casual photos with their phone as well so I'm always on the lookout for the best at a given price range. Hell I'd even get them iphones now that some finally updated their hardware, but I'm not paying $700 a pop for the non-retard 64gb model (16gb iPhone 6s, wtf apple)
>>
>>52247752

Way more features on flagship phones.

If you're only ever interested in what's in stock and texting/ browsing it doesn't matter much, but my phone pretty much is the centerpiece of my professional life, so I prefer having the newer features, better batteries, etc.
>>
>>52250631
that's my aim as well.
>>
>>52250218
That's implying the battery doesn't crap out. I had a 5 for almost 3 years and the battery lasted a good 50 minutes before it died
>>

Lumia 530.
Bought for 60€ as temporary phone waiting for the 550, works so good I gave up the idea of upgrading it.

I asked this yesterday but I'll see if I can get any more opinions.

My Nexus 5 is dying. Should I buy another or upgrade to an Xperia Z5?
>>
>>52251744
Are you okay with running older versions of Android?
>>
>>52251961
Depends how old, I can live with a version behind, but would prefer not to.
>>
>>52239996
Galaxy S3 here.
it's a bit slow, but I mostly use it for calls and internet browsing
kind of in the same boat as >>52245999

the USB port on my S3 is dying (tried like 5 different cables, it only charges, data isn't sent), so if I want to get shit on/off the phone and not have to send it over wifi, I have to pop it on/off the SD card

removable battery is a nicety that I haven't really utilized, but I should probably look into getting a new battery at some point
>>
S5 with cm12.

Broken GPS however, too lazy to fix it.
>>
Galaxy Note 3 here, probably the best phone ive ever used, battery life is just fantastic. I got it for like 160usd, not even looking for an upgrade.

Any phones to look out for in 2016? Looking for at least 5.5inch. Currently have one plus one. Its a mostly great phone, but I may want to buy a new phone later in the year just because. I've wanted the nexus 6, but I feel it is a bit old now

>Still on par with today's flagships
>5 inch screen (Perfect)
>2gb ram (Anything over 2gb is a waste)

>With apps like amplify, battery is decent now

What's the catch with that phone?

Lumia 640

Xperia Z3, it's top notch.
Camera is good, feel in hand is great, everything about it is amazing.
>>
Moto G 2014. Unless a substantial upgrade priced at around $100 comes out I'll be sticking with this thing for quite some time
>>
My OPO. It's pretty much the perfect phone other than the headphone jack placement and lack of wireless charging (that can be modded in anyway)

Still on my Note 3, awaiting a new battery and a new pen.

Otherwise ill keep it till it craps out, does all i need it to do, while having a large comfy screen.

>>52241776
I had the Verizon version of this, so no custom roms (rip locked bootloader). After years of outdated Touchwhiz bullshit with my phone slowing down like crazy, I had to switch to a 6P

25% in standby?

how?
>>
I still have an iphone 3gs
Still works, but I'm pretty sure it would brick if I updated iOS.
