Academia is a completely different world that working in the private sector. And working in government is another world of it's own as well.
I don't mean to imply that professors are incompetent, or unknowledgeable, but they do usually have no clue what the world outside their school's walls is like.

The "desktop" requires retard-oriented software design in order to be successful. I hope it dies completely before this desktop cancer can ruin my favorite server/workstation OS.
All that shit XDG/FD.ORG did to a fine successor to UNIX was bad enough... along with the subsequent death of the real UNIX style of development and use as OS X/windows skids flocked towards it...
