Debian stable, man.
>>
>>52235391
debian stable crashed for me yesterday 61 days in

feels bad man
>>
>>52235425
Hardware/driver issue? I have a spare box for testing with the same setup that crashes occasionally because it has a shit Gigabyte mainboard.
>>
>>52235425
Mine is also running Debian stable, what were you doing when it crashed?

Other one

Today I powered off my home server after 59 days of service because I want to try running alpine on it.
>>
>>52235545
I don't think so. It's just a Dell C2D computer that my parents gave me.

I was chilling on my VOIP server when it crashed and ssh wouldn't work, and when I hit the power button to restart it, it just stalled and I had to cut its power to restart it.

>>52235601
It was just running a Mumble and a starbound server, and also hosting a samba share at the time -- not sure what went wrong. I recall it saying something about a bad superblock, so I'd just assume it was a HDD read error.
>>
>>52235347
programs have memory leaks all the time. I never patch the current kernel because then eventually my memory would start to get used up. I just restart

post your hardware and services it runs, because having a dumb router connected to an UPS is nothing hard to maintain.
>>
>>52235656
It's not unusual that the ACPI features of the power button don't work correctly. This looks to me like a broken network connection that failed to restore itself automatically.

This thread is now about hypervisors and other useful machines that actually does something and that require proper config and maintaining to run stable. Virtual may mays are not allowed.

So, about the services it runs:
First Debian VM with allocated 4GB RAM is running:
>LAMP with:
>Ampache (300GB+ of music and movies), phpmyadmin, wordpress engine with welcome page, phpsysinfo for monitoring the hardware (passthrough to the hypervisor), roundcube, personal maemo repository (100GB+)
>mysql databases, currently 4 big ones
>Mail server (postfix, dovecot, spamassassin)
>fail2ban
>L4D2 server with steampipe autoupdate daemon
>CarPC pinger (daemon designed to ping the android powered CarPC in my car - in case of unexpected connection termination (wifi) it tracks the car via broadband network and builds a map). Also it's paired with online SMS service to report possible theft directly to me.
Second VM is WES7 (Windows Embedded Standard 7) powered with 2GB RAM:
>Torrent client with webgui designed to load all torrents from client machines via Bittorrent-webui+ (addition to Firefox). It downloads the shit, scans it for potential threats and moves it to samba share available for all home users. It downloads everything securely via openvpn tunnel
>GG archiver (communicator session)
>HLSW client available via remote desktop

The hypervisor itself is responsible for apcupsd network daemon (for other nodes, in order to shutdown properly in case of power failure), samba shares, openvpn server, secure TOR wifi AP, backups (backing up public share containing important data and all vdi files to dedicated 500GB HDD).
Everything is hosted on pic rel. This week I'm gonna order another exact thin client with a little bit better fan, 16GB RAM, 2x2TB 2,5" SED HDDs, 32GB DOM SSD and two external 4TB HDDs to serve as an unmanaged secure file vault accessible via cifs/samba.
Server itself is very stable, the longest uptime I got was 140 days.
