Thanks OP. My backup system fucked up a long time ago and I've been too lazy to fix it.

Everything worth backing up is in google drive. If I lost my anime that'd suck but it's not the end of the world.

I have 8 TB of hd movies and lossless music and some other shit across 4 2tb hard drives. As well as 2 250gb ssds. How the fuck do I backup everything and not spend $600 on 2 new 6tb caviar blacks?
>>
>>52232639
what's the best way to go about organizing everything for a backup? my files are all over the place because I never cared about organizing it
I half-assed every single one of my backups so far and I ended up with doublets in different folders on different hdds and usb sticks

Everything is auto-backed up in the cloud anon, dont worry.

the key to backups is making sure you can restore from them. lots of people "backup" but then realise a year later that their backups are fucked and nothing backed up in the past year is worth a fucking damn.

backing up isnt hard though. buy two external drives and backup the stuff you want backed up. drives are cheap so dont worry about using compression unless it is really worth it. remember your pictures and videos are already compressed so they aint gonna get smaller in a zip or rar file.

take one drive and store it in a safe place in your house. then take the second drive and store it in a safe place that is not your house. could be your parents or where you work or a bank. doesnt really matter just as long as it wont get destroyed if there is a fire in your house.

get into the habit of backing up every few days to the drive in your house. and every month or whenever you need to do a big backup get the drive from the second location.

encryption is a good idea on the second drive as it will not be with you always. however you should balance the reality of "if i forget the passphrase/key im fucked, am i disciplined enough to do encryption properly? is it really needed for pictures of my cat?".

also backup to dropbox or onedrive or whatever you want. "the cloud" is helpful for this.

it is 2016 so we should never hear "omg the data is gone/corrupt!!!" and not be able to restore it.

I'm glad people like the tape meme. Remember to recommend it to gaymer /v/ fags in their build threads.

B-but you don't have the (you).

>>52237022
Damn that's some paranoid backup system. For me, a 250gb external hard drive would be enough, just to save music, videos and other personal stuff. Just keep it in your home in a drawer or something
