Yes, they're over priced. Yes, you're paying a huge markup for the brand. But no, if you want those specific designs (for whatever reason,) and you want the best build quality/materials of said design, you're going to pay the ridiculous markup. Walnut, for example, is not fucking cheap.
The copies/clones/knock offs are significantly cheaper for a reason, and you're more likely going to regret spending (or wasting,) 1/4th the price, for something that might break if you look at it incorrectly.
All of that said, if you're spending a lot of time at your computer, you should probably invest in something more comfortable and supportive of good posture, than aesthetically appealing. But the guy in the OP image is just setting his workspace up for others (and himself, but probably to a lesser degree,) to drool at.

I drive the La Scalas with a Rotel RA-1412. Pic related. Pure Class A, solid state. Capable of delivering up to 220 watts RMS @ 8 ohms per channel. It's plenty adequate. Plus the La Scalas are rated at 104 dB @ 1W @ 1m. (Well the originals are, the new II series are rated at 105)
