I just got got my HD600s which i'm told need an amp but they sound loud enough.

>>
>>52227934
>Do all amps do is make everything louder?
Short answer: yes, that's what an ideal amplifier does. Voltage division can unevenly alter frequencies' amplitude however. HD 600 is somewhat immune to this due to its high impedance but this is always relative to the device you are plugging the headphones into. If you get the volume you want with the HD 600 even without a discrete amplifier, you are very likely good already. HD 600 are still a bit on the lower side of sensitivity hence the guideline here for whether headphone needs an amplifier recommends you one.

The ideal volume in the digital domain would be constant full scale in every application, including your OS.

>>52228206
While exaggerated that is close to how the headphones sound and measure. The 2kHz bumb on almost all K6xx and K7xx -series AKGs do make them sound a bit tinny or "shouty" and because of the amplitude rise at 2kHz and in the higher treble, the rolled off bass will sound more distant.

>The ideal volume in the digital domain would be constant full scale in every application, including your OS.
correct. i was basically implying that with what i said
>>
>>52228328
Goldenears measurements of the K702 are quite different from those on Heapdhones.com and Innerfidelity, then I guess that this divergence must be due to different performances of the different tested units. I'd really love to measure the FR of my K702 in order to EQ them to be very close to neutral, but I guess I should need a good microhphone/system in order to accomplish this. The only good headphone I can compare the K702 with is my X2 and so far it sounds like the K702 performs better at almost everything.

> The 2kHz bumb on almost all K6xx and K7xx -series AKGs do make them sound a bit tinny or "shouty"
I know that the 2kHz peak is constant in any K7- series, but can I say that I never experienced this tinny sensation? The K702 sound pleasantly clear to me without audible annoying peaks. The mids are so balanced and detailed compared to the X2 that listening to any kind of acoustic music is amazing.

> and because of the amplitude rise at 2kHz and in the higher treble, the rolled off bass will sound more distant.
Honestly I don't feel like the treble is that enhanced and I don't find it overshadowing the bass at all. The rolled-off sub-bass sounding distant is true, even though the sub-bass is more present than on the X2. As for the midbass, it's not just present, it's punchy and really enjoyable in my opinion. Can I say that the midbass on the K702 sounds more detailed and less muffled than the midbass on the X2?

P.S. Get the MA750, not the MA750i. The inline remote is useless if you aren't using an iphone or ipod, and the 'i' version apparently has a high failure rate. Also, for some reason RHA put the cable cinch below the remote, and the cinch is needed to tighten up the over ear hooks for the sake of comfort.

I heard many people talk about EQ here but a spontaneous doubt arose in my mind: how can one EQ his own headphone without having the exact measurements of his own unit? Is he going to EQ his headphones based on FR? How can one be usre that his headphone exactly sounds like the heqdphones tested in reviews?
>>
>>52230778
And when you EQ them they get better than HD6xx because of the bigger soundstage. HD6xx still have great imaging tho.

>>
>>52231041
>Ok but is looking at different measurements a safe path to EQ?
It gives you a starting point. The response of your ear is unique, and measurements still can't account for personal taste.
>Is Equalizer APO peace gui still the best way to eq a headphone for windows?
Equalizer APO has a GUI now for all you people who can't calculate the effect of multiple filters at once. Also expresses it in octave scale, if you find that more intuitive. PEACE still does a few things that EQAPO doesn't.
>Is there a reliable guide to EQ anywhere on the net?
It would boil down to using sine sweeps and noise bursts to identify peaks and dips in the response to tune them out. High playback level so you can hear the frequency extremes, but not so loud that you kill your ears. Listen to music to see if you actually like the result.
Peaking filters get dips and peaks and target frequencies. Shelf filters affect broader ranges, and affect everything above or below, depending whether you choose low-pass or high. That's all the filters you need.

>>
>>52231190
Copypasta checklist.
-Is it too quiet?
-Is the output impedance too high (fixable by equalization)?
-Is there noise/EMI or hiss to it?
-Does it sound distorted as you start to crank up the volume?

E10k works well enough.

Hey /hpg/ I have a question. I got some Xiaomi Piston 3's, they're pretty good and pass xiaomi verification, HOWEVER the controller has the buttons seperated by buttons when every picture I find online has them as 3 individual buttons. Its killing my autism and I must know if this is normal or not and I might have fakes.

Also they sound kinda ass but my last pair was stupidly base heavy so thats probably normal
>>

>>
>>52235863
pic? most pistons in circulation are fakes. the controller should be ribbed (as if cut by cnc), and the buttons aren't separated by any little pieces of plastic or anything. my friend also bought a piston 3, and found that the case it came with had some weird symbols at the bottom rather than having additional ear tips, which is also a tell-tale sign that its fake and gay.

i was also surprised they sounded that way when i got them, but they aren't that bad after a bit of burn and getting used to, pretty balanced and decent detail out of a phone, though it doesn't cut it for high fi at all; for 10 bux its def worth.

hmm nothing else is weird about it though (it is true that the button is supposed to have only a little bump in the center). does it have a mic vent on the back? is its sound balanced (as in left/right panning not frequency reception)? does the case it came in have tips in it?

also if youve recently gotten this you should also have a little "mi" logo strapped around the wire above the jack.

Just picked up these R70x yesterday and I gotta say I am blown away.

Upgraded from my AD700's which are slightly more comfortable. However the R70x's have a fuller and more balanced sound, better design, more compact, and significantly lighter. I've tried pairs of AKG's, a couple Sonys, Grados, but all have since been returned or sold. I have never tried any Sennheisers. But with these I'm in love and won't ever need another pair of cans as long as they last

Also, you're a bunch of autists and these generals are completely pointless. What is there to discuss about things so subjective as comfort and sound? Do yall just jack off to freq response graphs while arguing about the same memes over and over? I've come, got some advice, made a decision, and now I'm happy so I can leave forever. Goodbye

>I've come, got some advice, made a decision, and now I'm happy so I can leave forever. Goodbye
Who would give the advice if everyone did that?

>>52238199
Very close to the 900. Consensus seems to be 95% of the 900 in terms of all that micro-detail, dynamics, other audiophile buzzwords. More objectively they don't exhibit the same treble issues some complain about with the 900 andlook better (imo). The only downfall is the opening in the pads is quite a bit smaller than the 600/900 and the classic long-ass cable with 1/4" termination which isn't detachable.
>>
>>52238243
Forgot to mention they don't quite have all of the 'thunderous' bass the 900 have but they're up there.
>>
>>52238243
>Who would give the advice if everyone did that?
Nobody. Which is a good thing, since advice given by a bunch of autists who can't recognize their personal biases is usually shit advice. There are countless other sources of guidance which are a lot better

So I have a pair of Philips Fidelio X2s and a pre-amp for my recording

Even though the X2s don't need phantom power, I feel like fidelity is a little better when plugged into my pre-amp rather than my PCs regular headphone outlet (realtek HD built in audio etc)

Is there likely to be a difference or am I just imagining it?

Other than getting rid of buzzing, does a DAC improve audio quality in a major way?

I upgraded from a900x's to k7xx's, and was told it would be a slight upgrade, but I was absolutely blown away by the improvement between the two, so I was wondering if getting a dac would have a similar boon.

Strictly a condenser thing. Outside that world of recording, condensers are known as capacitors, electrostatics.

>>52237716
They're kinda bright.

>>52239040
>a900x's to k7xx
That's a matter of taste. Discrete DACs don't do much of any change.
>>
>>52239042
firstly the solo is great, you are more likely to be made fun of here for the x2
secondly, you are definitely imagining the difference. your onboard is better, the pre-amp that is for the mic port does not affect the direct monitor port at all
thirdly, i want to make sure we're clear on something. phantom 48v power is for microphones only, and at that, -condenser- microphones only. it is not extra power, it is required power for condenser mics to function, and can actually damage dynamic microphones

well, it just depends on so many things. honestly the x2 are quite efficient, so if you think it sounds better through the solo, go for it. if you cant tell the difference, and can still EQ it and shit if you want, then it literally doesnt matter
