Who here still uses "old" technology?

I'm still using a Galaxy S3 running CM12 Nightly, and my desktop and laptop are still on Sandy Bridge i7's. The only things worth upgrading in the past 5 years have been graphics cards and SSDs,

Most of my tech is 4-5 years old and still faster than most new electronics in the median price range. Why do people bother upgrading all the time?
>>
Galaxy SIII will never die.
>>
I've just bought a nexus 5x because my s3 isn't recognised by my computer anymore. When I try to Odin things it won't get detected and I need to flash stock ROM to network unlock the phone. It's a great phone though
>>
I'm gonna keep my i7 2600k and Note 4 for a long time.
>>
>>52223006
I suspect that's why Samsung got rid of changeable batteries. When the battery turns to shit in 2 years (or less), the user has to buy a new phone.
>>
>>52223006
I'm running the same phone on the same OS and it is not fast. Faster than the factory OS, for sure, and the battery life is much improved, but I'm very ready to switch to a Moto G.
>>
>>52223006
Same phone with Resurrection Remix. If only it had more RAM, it'll be a perfect phone.

Just out of curiosity (I have never tried this yet) but if you have Android 4.4.x and do a Factory Reset, will it automatically update the OS to 5.x ? Or will it stay to its original installed version?

The soc and other main components are located near the usb port at the bottom. It is the hottest area and will put the usb port to rust in no time.

Gave my S3 to my mom. But since CM and other CM based custom roms where all having random reboots during phone calls back then I decided to install something else (Blekota Note 4). Anyways,go have a laugh at the fact that I run Windows 98,through modified Bochs on my S5 Mini. What I modified on Bochs is the BIOS - I replaced it with an PC Award BIOS from a Socket 8 machine - A-Trend ATC-6100. I actually got GPU drivers as well on it - shows up as Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI. I don't understand why normies switch to a new phone every year.
>>
>>52226899
because marketing works

phones are just a small piece of the puzzle

almost everything being made today has a set life expectancy, from cars being made to crap out in about 100,000 miles, to shoes that last about a year before they turn to shit, everything we make today is of low quality and is not meant to last.

Also still rocking the SIII. I've got the i9305 (4G) so I'm still waiting for someone to get the damn radio interface layer thingy working in Marshmallow.

Although, the CM team created a CM13 branch for it today, so I have high hopes that it will be supported soon.

I had an S3 but I fucked the charging port up somehow, it would only charge when I'd bend the USB cable against the sides of the port and the charging was stupidly slow (40% in 8 hours while completely shut down). Nevertheless, I used it like that for a year before getting a Z3 Compact in September.

If I hadn't broken the fucking charging port I'd still be using it. It was so comfortable to hold compared to the blocky edges of the Z3.
>>
>>52227261

I'm replacing the charging port on mine today for the same reason. It probably wasn't anything you did, they just don't live forever.

I'll either get a phone that I can charge out of it or I'll fuck up up but I can't double break it anyway.

s3 should be easily serviceable like s4

My port on s4 started to disconnect randomly, and wasn't charging properly, so i just swapped port and everything works OK.

Recently, my lock button stayed pressed, but that is known issue, so i ordered new switches, so I'm going to just solder new one instead old one and that should be good as new.

Only problem is the battery, but I don't need that, because I'm using s4 mostly for debugging apps.

But on the topic.
Recently I bought Nexus 6, and I think it will last for 2-3 years before battery dies. And after that, it will be used as debugging device also.
