What's the best build for a nostalgia PC, /g/?

Planning on building a 2000/XP desktop (probably 2000) for playing shit like old-school Half-Life/CS, AvP, Deus Ex, UT99, etc.

I never had one myself, but apparently it's voodoo 3dfx or bust. I'd go for a pentium 4 or a high end pentium 3. I'd try for at least 2gb ram, even if it's for nostalgia, you still want the os to run smoothly.

You can SLI Voodoo 3's? I had no idea about that.

Not that anon but apparently you cant, only with the voodoo 2 can you do SLI.

Do any of those not work on 10?

Homeworld seemed to need a registry hack to save the renderer/display settings (or perhaps I just installed it wrong. But I know I just had to move a registry entry from some currentuser/something/something/wow6432node to localmachine/software) and a tool to set NT 4.0 compatibility so OpenGL would work (it has slightly better graphics than DirectX)

But in the end it worked.

get the homeworld remaster off steam, has the remastered and Original versions
>>
>>52222521
Nah, they do, but I want an old nostalgia PC just because I can desu. There's just something about running old games on the hardware it was made for that feels great.

>>52222442
Dang, that's unfortunate. I'll probably just get one V3, unless two V2s is faster.

I've seen video of the remaster. It looks like shit. Ships die like flies like in Homeworld 2.
Homeworld 1 was epic because your ships mattered. Unless you abused salvage corvettes, you couldn't afford to lose many ships and still make it. I just did a no-steal playthrough where I lost maybe a dozen corvettes through the whole campaign and still only had like 4800 RUs going into the final mission. I'd always stolen every ship in sight so I never knew that the resources were that close.

Athlon Thunderbird 1400 or the slotted "classic" 1000 if you want meme cred.

The 1 GHz Pentium III is also a really great chip, if you can find one with an RDRAM board I would probably pick it over an Athlon system.

Voodoo2 SLI setups are expensive as fuck, something like a GeForce 256 or a GeForce 2 GTS would probably be quite nice.

He'd actually probably have a much better reliability record using old components rather than brand new low-end shitbox parts desu
